Muzzy out as GCC football coach
One week away from the official start of high school football practices in Pennsylvania, Greensburg Central Catholic has undergone a coaching change.
Muzzy Colosimo is out as the Centurions' coach. Was he fired? Did he resign? Neither Colosimo, Greensburg Central school officials, or Diocese of Greensburg officials are saying. Colosimo coached Greensburg Central to the WPIAL title game three of the past seven seasons.
The relatoionship between Colosimo and the school hasn't been terrific recently. Only a year ago the school suspended him from coaching a WPIAL playoff game for undisclosed reasons.
Colosimo met with Greensburg Central officials today. By 4:30, the Diocese of Greensburg issued a news release saying there had been a coaching change. The strange thing is that the release didn't even mention Colosimo's name or that he was gone as coach. It simply stated Dan Mahoney and Matt Federico were taking over as coach. Mahoney is GCC's athletic director and had been Colosimo's defensive coordinator for 16 years. Federico coached GCC's quarterbacks from 2008-10.
I'll have more on this story in tomorrow's Post-Gazette.
