Pitt trying to recruit Jeter again
Beaver Falls basketball player Sheldon Jeter doesn't play to make a college decision for a few weeks, and Pitt apparently has stepped up its interest in Jeter.
Pitt had showed interest a few times during the season and coach Jamie Dixon came to watch Jeter play. The Panthers never offered a scholarship, though. Jeter's father, Carliss, said he spoke with Dixon this week and Dixon wants to meet with Sheldon Jeter Friday.
Carliss Jeter said Pitt had been saying it did not have a scholarship to offer Sheldon. But now the Panthers might have a scholarship or scholarships to give. Pitt announced today that Isaiah Epps is transferring.
Sheldon Jeter (pictured) might make one or possibly two more official visits in the next few weeks. He might visit Florida State. Carliss Jeter said Seton Hall is no longer in the picture. Seton Hall was on Jeter's final list of five or six schools only recently. Sheldon already has visited Wisconsin, Kansas State and South Carolina. But the Kansas and South Carolina situations are up in the air. South Carolina's staff was fired and Frank Martin left Kansas State to become South Carolina's coach.
Jeter also is seriously considering Penn State.
Elsewhere in Pitt recruiting, Trey Zeigler plans to visit Pitt this weekend. He was a top 50 player coming out of high school in Michigan and decided to attend Central Michigan to play for his father. But Ernie Zeigler was fired as coach after this past season and Trey decided to transfer.
Trey is not unfamiliar with Pittsburgh. His father used to be a Pitt assistant under Ben Howland. Trey lived in the North Allegheny school district through sixth grade.
