Big question: Will Rushel Shell look elsewhere?
Todd Graham is gone as Pitt's coach. Does that mean Rushel Shell was change his mind and not attend Pitt?
Shell (pictured No. 1) apparently isn't answering inquiries from the media today. However, a source close to Shell said the star Hopewell running back was talking about looking at some other colleges.
But Hopewell coach Dave Vestal said he met with Shell today and Shell didn't say whether he wanted to visit other schools.
"Like everybody, he's just in shock," Vestal said. "We talked and I told him let's just sit back and wait and see what happens from here and who the new coach is."
If Shell's comments on Twitter are any indication, he likes Pitt. Tonight, Shell tweeted "Todd Graham man u quit on a team that's about to take off. ha it don't matter who the coach is PITT is on the uprise #h2p were a family."
I spoke with two other Pitt recruits tonight from the WPIAL. Upper St. Clair quarterback-linebacker Dakota Conwell said he is still 100 percent committed to Pitt.
"I'm going to wait through this next month and see who the new coach is," Conwell said.
Penn Hills receiver-defensive back Corey Jones said he plans to re-open his recruiting to see if he can get some scholarship offers. But both Conwell and Penn Hills receiver-defensive back Corey Jones were critical of Graham.
"I don't think it was right what he did and how he did it," Conwell said.
When Jones was asked if he had any preference for Pitt's next coach, he said, "Someone with commitmennt."
One last thing about Conwell. He will have surgery on his injured right ankle Monday. He sustained the injury in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL playoffs. Conwell said a screw will be placed into his ankle.
