What a tremendous job by Upper St. Clair. Entire team. Entire coaching staff.

USC linemen were tremendous. Few players harping on me for saying on this blog that they couldn't win. That's fine. I don't think hardly anyone outside of USC's players thought they could win without Dakota Conwell.

Pete Coughlin finished with 209 yards rushing on 21 carries. He was so nervous he got sick twice in the first quarter. What a tremendous story he is.

Who could've thought this without Dakota Conwell.

9:43 p.m. - This one just about over. Central turns ball over on downs at own 9-yard line. 1:56 left in game. USC leading, 28-14.

Jeannette crushing Seton-LaSalle, 35-14. Defense apparently falls apart for Seton.

9:36 p.m. - Could we have a Gateway-Upper St. Clair final.

Mike Wilcox just caught a 25-yard TD pass from Pete Coughlin and Upper St. Clair has gone ahead of Central Catholic, 28-14, with 3:35 left.

And Gateway recovered a fumble by North Allegheny. Got a field goal. Gateway now leads NA, 17-14

9:33 p.m. - Timeout USC with 5:08 left in the game. USC with ball at Central 44-yard line.

Clairton now leading Rochester, 22-7

Gateway has tied North Allegheny, 14-14. on 3-yard TD run by Andre Martin. QB Thomas Woodson is playing, but injured shoulder preventing him from throwing. Brian Jones at QB on passing plays.

Jeannette has gone ahead of Seton-LaSalle, 28-14, 15-yard TD pass Cox to Miller.

9:27 p.m. - USC takes over ball at own 17 with 10:21 left in game.

Upper St. Clair star QB Dakota Conwell not playing. Ankle injury. Not even in uniform. Is on sideline with a protective boot on his right foot.

Gateway on NA 5-yard line at end of third quarter. Gators trailing only 14-7.

Sto-Rox has gone ahead of Bishop Canevin, 12-10.

9:24 p.m. - Central's Damion Jones-Moore just dropped a sure long TD pass.

21-yard TD run by Julian Durden puts Montour ahead Central Valley, 21-7.

9:22 p.m. - Pete Coughlin has 176 yards rushing on 19 attempts for USC.

9:20 p.m. - UNBELIEVABLE!!!! This Pete Coughlin kid tremendous for USC at QB. First play after kickoff, he makes great run, eluding tacklers, going all way across field 73 yards FOR TOUCHDOWN.

A.J. McGuire runs for two-point conversion and Upper St. Clair goes in front, 21-14, with 11:35 left in the fourth.

Who could've thought this without Dakota Conwell. What a game!!!

Aliquippa ahead of GCC, 33-0.

9:17 p.m. - Central Catholic back on top. QB Perry Hills runs QB draw 14 yards for TD on first play of fourth quarter. Mitch Maczura PAT is good. 11:56 left in fourth and Central leads, 14-13.

Gateway scores on 41-yard halfback pass from Bian Jones to Mileak Ford and cuts NAllegheny lead to 14-7.

Robert Foster 47-yard TD run for Central Valley and Warriors cut Montour lead to 14-7.

Central Catholic driving after turnover. At USC 14-yard line.

Dane Brown 9-yard TD run and Franklin Regional goes ahead of Knoch, 7-6

9:12 p.m.  - USC gives it right back on fumbled snap. Central now at USC 36.

9:10 p.m. - Ryan Boyd gets INT for Upper St. Clair of Perry Hills pass. Late in third and USC still leads, 13-7.

9:08 p.m. - Oh-oh. USC Zach Deitrick goes off with leg injury. He's top rusher at RB for USC. He's been effective.

Aliquippa goes ahead of Greensburg Central, 27-0. Blowout.

9:04 p.m. - Maybe Central has abandoned the running game because attempts have been fruitless. Damion Jones-Moore 1 yard on 2 carries to start second half. Jones-Moore now has 15 yards on 8 carries.

9:01 p.m. - USC takes second-half kickoff. Keeps ball for over 6 minutes. Gets 21-yard field goal by Killan Mulkern and Upper St. Clair takes, 13-7 lead.

Thomas Woodson back in at QB to start second half for Gateway.

8:57 p.m. - USC beating Central up front. USC now at Central 9-yard line. Central getting beat on the lines, surprising to say.

8:55 p.m. - USC on another drive. Now at Central 28.

8:52 p.m. - Pete Coughline15 yards first carry of second half.

8:50 p.m. - Second half about to start. I wonder if Central coaches lit into team at halftime.

Clairton has outgained Rochester, 223-31, in the first half. Rochester TD came on opening kickoff of game.

In Gateway-North Allegheny game, Gateway QB Thomas Woodson hasn't played for much of first half because of injury.

I'm at Chartiers Valley, so I can say this. Former Char Valley hoop star T.J. McConnell had a triple double for Duquesne University tonight. This from Swanny.

8:40 p.m. - Have to say it. Tremendous coaching job by USC's Jim Render. To be leading, 10-7, at half without Dakota Conwell? USC run defense has been superb and here is a big thing: No turnovers for USC and no penalties. Playing close to perfect game, which is what Panthers will need to win.

Pete Coughlin only 5-9, 155 pounds. Took over at QB for Conwell. He's been tremendous.

In Jeannette-Seton-LaSalle game, Jeannette QB Demetrious Cox has scored two TDs. Kevin Hart scored TD for Seton. Cox's second TD was a 10-yard run with 10 seconds left in the half.

End of first half and North Allegheny leads Gateway, 14-0. Gateway only one first down in first half. Alex DeCiantis 90 yards rushing for NA.

Jeannette and Seton-LaSalle are tied, 14-14.

Honestly, Central Catholic is getting outplayed. Central has pretty much abandoned running game. Damion Jones-Moore only six carries in first half for 17 yards. Central has 1 yard rushing in first half.

Upper St. Clair has 140 yards offense in first half. Central QB Perry Hills is 7 of 11 for 84 yards.

From Coach E: Bishop Canevin has gone ahead of Sto-Rox 10-6, at halftime. What's up with this supposed great Sto-Rox offense? Bobby Gustine supposedly got by Marzett Geter for a long TD.

From slick Rich Emert: Montour has gone ahead of Central Valley, 14-0, on 33-yard TD run by Julian Durden.

Clairton has gone ahead of Rochester, 14-7. Chris Adamski says Clairton is starting to dominate on both sides of the ball.

8:22 p.m. - USC goes on top. Killan Mulkern 24-yard field goal 19 seconds left in half. Can you believe it, USC ahead, 10-7, WITHOUT DAKOTA CONWELL.

Aliquippa now leads Greensburg Central, 21-0.

From Swannie: Aliquippa leads Greensburg Central Catholic, 14-0.

Knoch and Franklin Regional is at halftime and Knoch leads, 6-0.

8:15 p.m. - WHO IS THIS KID PETE COUGHLIN???? He's killing Central with his running ability. He has 71 yards on 10 carries. Just gained 13 and 22 yards. USC is now on Central 15. Timeout with 44 seconds left in half.

Bishop Canevin has gone ahead of Sto-Rox, 7-6.

Montour has gone ahead of Central Valley, 7-0.

Aliquippa ahead of Greensburg Central, 7-0.

Clairton gets on board. TD run by Tyler Boyd. But Rochester still leads, 7-6.

North Allegheny ahead of Gateway, 14-0, on Mack Leftwich 5-yard TD run.

Seton-LaSalle tied Jeannette on 35-yard TD pass from Brumbaugh to Lou Rotunda.

End of first quarter and North Allegheny leads Gateway, 7-0. NA in the red zone now.

8:02 p.m. - This Pete Coughlin, I like him, for USC. First start at QB. He's only 5-9, 155, but he has 32 yards on six carries and is 3 of 5.

Seton-LaSalle has tied Jeannette, 7-7.

Rochester leading Clairton, 7-0, after first quarter. Upset in making????

From Kyle Piper: Sto-Rox leads Bishop Canevin, 6-0.

From "Stats" Wunderley: Jeannette goes ahead of Seton-LaSalle, 7-0, on Demetrious Cox 21-yard run.

Montour and Central Valley are scoreless after one.

7:56 p.m. - USC scores. A.J. McGuire 8-yard run. 12-play, 95-yard drive. Impressive. Tie game, 7-7, early in second.

From Sam Werner. North Allegheny goes on top of Gateway, 7-0, on Alex DiCiantis 5-yard touchdown run.

Quick first quarter. USC driving. Now on Central 23. Panthers showing some moxie without star QB Dakota Conwell

7:50 p.m. - Hey give this USC team credit and especially QB Pete Coughlin. Panthers are moving. Coughlin a ocuple good runs and a few complete passes. Down to Central 25.

7:44 p.m. - Pete Coughlin starting at QB for Upper St. Clair.

From colleague Nick Tolomeo. Knoch goes on top of Franklin Regional, 6-0, Kyler Kenyon 1-yard TD run. Bad snap on extra point.

7:38 p.m. - Good start for Central. Anthony Nixon catches 8-yard TD pass from Perry Hills. PAT good and Central takes 7-0 lead with 7:54 left in first. Nixon three catches on the drive. TD set up by Damion Jones-Moore long kickoff return.

Nixon, Maryland recruit, is really, really good.

Wow. From colleague Chris Adamski: D'Andre Moon returns opening kickoff for toucdhown for Rochester and Rams go ahead of mighty Clairton, 7-0.

7:33 p.m. - Damion Jones-Moore 58-yard return on kickoff for Centra. Puts ball at USC 30.

7:30 p.m. - I'm going to say Central wins 21-7.

7:24 p.m. - Pete Coughlin will supposedly start at QB for USC.

Not a big crowd here. No surprise, though. Traffic is horrible. One lane is closed on the road that leads to Chartiers Valley.

7:19 p.m. - Yes. Saved by Matt Popchock, Mr. High School Sports for The Fan 93.7. My phone almost dead. My charger is at home sitting nicely on my kitchen counter. Matt had an extra phone charger. He gave me one. Yes, Matt. You're the best Matt ever.

But who carries an extra phone charger with them???? I shouldn't complain Ha. ha.

7:02 p.m. - Besides Dakota Conwell not playing, RB-DB Matt Paxton won't be playing. Wrist injury. Not quite sure who will be starting QB. Could be sophomore J.J. Conn.

6:47 p.m. - Upper St. Clair QB Dakota Conwell is not playing. Sustained injured ankle last week's game. He's in a boot and is not even in uniform. Shame for USC. Can't see USC being able to do much of anything offensively. Only chance for Panthers is if defense has performance of a lifetime.

It's no suprise Conwell isn't playing. He said it was a game-time decision. I've heard from sources this week that he is out for weeks and might not play basketball for a while.
