WEST ALLEGHENY STAR MIKE CAPUTO SUFFERED A SERIOUS ANKLE INJURY IN TONIGHT'S GAME AGAINST SOUTH PARK. HE WAS TAKEN OFF THE FIELD ON A STRETCHER. MORE NEWS ON HIM LATER.
FINAL SCORE: MONTOUR 35, CHARTIERS VALLEY 28
Final stats and thoughts later
10:01 p.m. - Wayne Capers, limping from apparent cramps, throws INT on a second-and-10 play. 1:17 left. Looks like Montour will win.
9:59 p.m. - Helped by two Montour penalties, CV has moved to the Montour 38. 1:24 left. Montour leads, 35-28.
9:56 p.m. - Greensburg Salem defeated Hempfield, 38-35.
9:50 p.m. - Capers back in. He's limping slightly.
9:47 p.m. - Bryan Leipold came on at QB for CV for Capers. On third down, Leipold's first play, he passed, but was intercepted by Aaron McGee. 5:14 left.
9:46 p.m. - Capers now up. Limping a little. Could be just cramps.
9:44 p.m. - Wayne Capers has looked like he's been bothered by cramps last two possessions. Now looks hurt on the sideline.
9:43 p.m. - North Hills leads, 28-0, over Perry end third. Buzz Gabos reports Perry's Shakil Brown is one to keep an eye on. Only a junior.
9:42 p.m. - Josh McCauley reports seven minutes left in Hopewell game.
9:37 p.m. - Rushel Shell goes 79 yards for a touchdown and Hopewell leads Belle Vernon, 14-7. This from MSA Sports.
9:36 p.m. - USC leads Shaler, 17-6, with 7:45 left. Ryan Mincher threw a TD pass for Shaler.
9:21 p.m. - Wayne Capers has been tremendous. He scrambles again, finds Steve Burda for a 20-yard touchdown pass - and get this - Char Valley now trails by only 35-28 with 1:57 left in the third. This game was close to mercy rule earlier. Now Montour is in trouble.
Char Valley's new kicker, sophomore Kristina Coyne, is 4 of 4 on extra points. This is her first year kicking for the varsity. She is very accurate.
9:18 p.m. - Char Valley driving again. Capers just goes back, scrambles and throws a long ball. He is now 12 of 20 for 289 yards. 2:18 left in the third quarter and CV on the Montour 15.
9:11 p.m. - Greensburg Salem leads Hempfield, 31-21
Greensburg Central Catholic rolling, 35-0
9:03 p.m. - This is getting interesting. CV held Montour and now takes over at the Montour 41. Nine minutes left in the third and Montour leads, 35-21.
8:57 p.m. - Second play of third quarter Wayne Capers hits Christian Kuntz on a 76-yard TD pass. XPT kick makes it 35-21. Maybe we'll have a game after all.
8:54 p.m. - If Montour's defense can be staunch, this team is going to be tough to beat. Spartans' offense is very good. Julian Durden excellent runner. Junior Dillan Buechel very good thrower. Good receivers.
8:49 p.m. - From Josh McCauley. Belle Vernon and Hopewell are tied, 7-7. Belle Vernon scored a defensive touchdown and Rushel Shell returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown.
8:40 p.m. - More news on Mike Caputo front. He suffered an injured ankle. Taken off on a stretcher. Not sure of severity yet, but was taken away.
From USC-Shaler, Dakota Conwell scored on a QB keeper with 17 seconds left in half and USC leads Shaler, 10-0, at half. Connor Scott out with ankle injury for USC.

CV's Wayne Capers has 75 yards rushing on six carries and has completed 8 of 14 for 121 yards.
8:33 p.m. - It has been confirmed that West Allegheny's Mike Caputo has been injured. We'll try to get more later.

8:27 p.m. - You hate putting information out there that you're not sure about. But I've received two different text messages that West Allegheny star Mike Caputo has been injured in was taken off the field on a stretcher.
We'll try to get you an update.
8:22 p.m. - Wayne Capers scrambles, throws 35 TD pass to Kevin Gillen. Montour leads, 35-13 with 59 seconds left.
I said earlier Capers throws a nice ball. He has a very good arm. He wants to play receiver in college, but he is good enough to be a Division I quarterback probably.
8:18 p.m. - "Swannie" reports Mount Pleasant ahead, 12-7.
Good start for Art Tragesser at Penn-Trafford, leading Seneca Valley, 14-0.
Greensburg Central leads, 14-0.
Greensburg Salem leads Hempfield, 21-14.
8:12 p.m. - From Dan "The Man" White. North Hills leads Perry, 14-0. According to White, "special teams are biting Perry."
8:10 p.m. - Julian Durden scores again for Montour. Xpoint kick and Montour leads, 35-7, with 3:33 left in the half.
Durden now has 165 yards rushing.
First game for Central Valley. Here's a shot of the packed house for the first football game for Central Valley High School tonight.

8:01 p.m. - I don't think Wayne Capers will be a QB in college, but he throws a pretty nice ball.
7:57 p.m. - From "Swannie" Greensburg Salem leads Hempfield, 21-7. Greensburg Central 7, Waynesburg 0 end of first.
Brad Everett reports Shaler starting RB Ron Wheeler suffers leg injury on first play from scrimmage. Was down for 10 minutes.
Charleroi 7, Mount Pleasant 0, end of first
7:55 p.m. - There he goes again. First play after Char Valley punt, Montour RB Julian Durden runs 50 yards for a TD and two-point pass makes it 26-7 Montour.
7:52 p.m. - So add another good running back to the Parkway Conference. Already had Rushel Shell and Mike Caputo. Now you have Julian Durden of Montour.
7:47 p.m. - Montour would've been good anyway this year. But Julian Durden puts them on another level. The transfer from North Catholic just ran 45 yards for a TD. Extra point fails and it's 20-7 Montour. Durden now has 95 yards on 10 attempts.
I knew Durden was good. He was North Catholic's leading rusher last year. But I didn't know he was this good.
7:44 p.m. - End of first quarter. Montour leads Char Valley, 14-7.
7:43 p.m. - From Brad Everett. Upper St. Clair field goal on first drive. USC leads Shaler, 3-0.
7:39 p.m. - Char Valley moved to the 10-yard line, but Capers' pass was intercepted by Sherrod Naylor in end zone.
From Reggie Sanserino. North Hills scores on first possession against Perry. Isaiah Faulk 2-yard run. 7-0 North Hills.
7:38 p.m. - Both teams fumble ball away.
7:35 p.m. - Bill Swan tells us that Greensburg Salem is beating Hempfield, 14-0. First quarter.
7:27 p.m. - This is like a tennis match so far. You keep turning your head back and forth for scores. Julian Durden 82 kickoff return. Next play Dillon Buechel hits Darren Massey with a 25-yard TD pass. It's 14-7 Montour. That's 21 points in 1:44.
7:25 p.m. - Julian Durden 82-yard kickoff return. Puts ball at CV 25.
7:23 p.m. - Yeah, I'd say Wayne Capers is a pretty good athlete. Second carry of the game, gets plugged at the line, breaks free and outruns everyone for a 67-yard touchdown. Kristina Coyne, Chartiers Valley's female kicker, makes the extra point. 7-7 with 6:12 left.
7:20 p.m. - Montour 77 yards in 11 plays on first drive. TD run by Julian Durden. 7-0 Montour. Durden had 46 yards on 6 carries in the drive. Nice to hae a kid transfer in like that.
7:16 p.m. - Julian Durden, transfer from North Catholic, is making a difference for Montour. 30-yard rain earlier.
7:11 p.m. - Chartiers Valley basketball starter Steve Burda came out for football this year - and he's starting at cornerback.
7:08 p.m. - Colleague Mike "Reggie" Sanserino sends the below picture from Perry-North Hills warmup.

Look below for news on Chartiers Valley's female kicker.
6:35 p.m. - It rained earlier, but it has turned into a beautiful night. Not too hot.

Montour takes the field.
6:25 p.m. - Game time is 7:10 for Chartiers Valley-Montour.
Chartiers Valley's kicker is wearing pigtails. That's because it's a girl.
Kristina Coyne (No. 13 on the left) will handle extra-point kicks for Chartiers Valley. She's only a sophomore.
"She's really a good athlete and is really a competitive girl," Chartiers Valley coach said a few moments ago while watching Coyne warm up.
Coyne is a 5-foot-10 sophomore who is a talented basketball player. She also plays on Char Valley's girls' soccer team. In fact, she just played in a soccer game and was changing into her football uniform in a Montour parking lot in a van. She was kicking 25-yard field goals in practice. Seems to have a good leg.
"Her mother teaches at our school and she played basketball at Kansas State," Saluga said.
6:20 p.m. - Veteran MSA color commentator John Lee sitting next to me. He is doing the game with Rob Matsie. Gotta like John, just because he's a former high school basketball coach, which puts him high on my list. But I think his life on Friday nights might revolve around eating at Brighton Hot Dog Shoppes. He ate at the one tonight in Greentree and then plans to eat at the Cranberry one in a week or two on Friday night.
But hey, I've eaten at Brighton Hot Dog Shoppes. I can understand.

Chartiers Valley players get together on a hill outside the locker room. Next to a big trash bin? Maybe they're getting ready for trash talking.
