Clairton's Green changes plans, commits to Pitt

Written by Mike White on .

It was only a few days ago that Clairton's Desimon Green said he would wait until next month to make his college decision. He planned to make a visit to Texas Tech Labor Day weekend and then choose a school from one of his three finalists - Pitt, Texas Tech and Michigan State.

Green changed his plans tonight. He made a verbal commitment to Pitt.

His decision gives Pitt three defensive end recruits over the past few days. Deonte Gibson of Lakewood, Ohio, committed earlier in the week. Max Issaka of Woodbridge, N.J. committed today.

Green also said the other day that he thought Pitt would take commitments from two more defensive ends. This was after Gibson committed. With Green and Issaka now in the fold, one has to wonder what this means to Woodland Hills defensive end Quinton Jefferson. He had narrowed his choices to Pitt and Iowa. Does Pitt now back off him?

Green, pictured to the left, is a 6-foot-5, 230-pound senior who also plays quarterback. He said a few days ago that he hoped to be around 220 pounds for the start of the season, "but that's OK. I can still move." He helped Clairton to WPIAL and PIAA Class A championships last season.

Green said he will also play some at receiver this season.
