Plum High School senior Adam Stawski won the WPIAL boys' golf championship this afternoon with a two-under par score of 70 at Diamond Run Golf Club in Ohio Township.
Stawski shot 34 on the front nine and 36 on the back to finish ahead of South Side Beaver's Justin Newbauer and Burrell's Derek Jones, who both shot 72.
The top 24 golfers advanced to the western regional of the PIAA playoffs next week. Two of the favorites for the WPIAL title didn't even qualify for the PIAA regional. Hopewell's Brock Pompeani, who won the WPIAL title last year, finished in a tie for 29th with an 82. His twin brother, Brandon, who was third at last year's championships, finished tied for 26th with 81.
