Live blog - Mt. Lebanon beats McKeesport by 12; USC, Gateway, NA, South Fayette, Shady Side win

Live blog from McKeesport-Mt. Lebanon WPIAL quarterfinal game. We'll also have some reports from other games throughout the day.

Don't know score, but just received word Gateway beat Kiski Area.

3:31 p.m. - Just heard from Upper St. Clair coach Danny Holzer. Upper St. Clair defeated Latrobe, 61-41. USC's Steve Limberiou had 21 points. USC in the semifinals. And to think that USC had to beat Peters Township in its final game just to qualify for the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in Section 4. 

Mt. Lebanon coach Joe David informed me Upper St. Clair defeated Latrobe. Don't know score. But that means a semifinal matchup between Mt. Lebanon and Upper St. Clair.

3:16 p.m. - Final stats from McKeesport-Mt. Lebanon.  Paul Lang of Mt. Lebanon had double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Even Pierce 18 points. McKeesport was led by Ty-Meer Brown, who had 13 points, but only two in the second half.

Key to the game was Mt. Lebanon's 15-1 run at the start of the second half.

3:14 p.m. - Final score from Class AAAA quarterfinals: North Allegheny 58, Peters Township 47

2:49 p.m. - Final score: Mt. Lebanon 56, McKeesport 44.

2:37 p.m. - This one just about over. Lebo leads 49-32, with 3:50 left.

North Allegheny leads Peters Township, 45-40, with 4:30 remaining.

Two more score updates: North Allegheny leads Peters Township, 39-31, after three. South Fayette leads Beaver Falls, 41-28, after three.

Score update from Class AA: Shady Side Academy now leads Jeannette, 35-29

2:27 p.m. - End of the third quarter and Mt. Lebanon leads, 42-29,

2:16 p.m. - Mt. Lebanon is turning it into a blowout. 15-1 run to start second half and Lebo now leads, 38-21. McKeesport just doesn't have enough at the guard position to stay with Lebo. Then again, Lebo's inside game has hurt McKeesport, too. I have said all along that Paul Lang, 6-5 junior, might be the biggest key to Lebo. He has nine points this quarter.

2:10 p.m. - Mt. Lebanon is starting to pull away. Bad intentional foul by McKeesport's Kendall Hunter on Mt. Lebanon's Evan Pierce. He makes both free throws, Paul Lang puts in a rebound, McKeesport turns it over, Evan Eaton gets fouled, makes one and Mt. Lebanon leads 30-20 with 6:32 left in the third quarter.

More halftime scores: South Fayette leads Beaver Falls, 28-21. Shady Side Academy is handling Jeannette, leading by 24-14.

From Kevin "Brutus" Trost: Halftime - North Allegheny leads Peters Township, 28-22. Peters Township having trouble at the free-throw line.

2:03 p.m. - First-half stats from McKeesport-Mt. Lebanon. Lebo has outrebounded McKeesport, 22-12. But it hasn't hurt the Tigers that much so far. Mt. Lebanon is shooting only 31 percent (8 of 26). McKeesport isn't getting as many shots - only 7 of 18. Mt. Lebanon is 4 of 8 from 3-point range. Pierce is 3 of 6 from 3-point range.

1:56 p.m. - End of the first half. Evan Pierce hit a long 3-pointer for Mt. Lebanon with two seconds left in the half and Lebo leads, 23-20. McKeesport has to feel good. The score is relatively low. The Tigers led a few times in the first half. Pierce has three 3-pointers and 11 points.

1:25 p.m. - Mt. Lebanon and McKeesport still close. 20-18 Lebo.

Update from another quarterfinal game. North Allegheny leads Peters Township, 14-4.

1:41 p.m. - End of the first quarter and Mt. Lebanon leads, 12-9. Lebo was able to speed up the tempo a little, but Sam Gooden's 3-pointer at the buzzer brought McKeesport within three. 

1:33 p.m. - McKeesport has started in a 2-3 zone and it's giving Mt. Lebanon some problems. McKeesport leads 3-2 with five minutes left in the first quarter.
