Post-Gazette Trout Photo Contest

Written by John Hayes on .

Welcome to the PG's new hunting and fishing blog. We'll have occasional posts and photo contests, starting with our annual Trout Photo Contest.

Send in your digital trout photos April 17 through May 15 for publication on the Post-Gazette’s website.

Email jpgs (no other format) to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Include photo subjects’ names and hometowns, location, size and type of trout, and photographer’s name and town.

Winning photos in categories Big Fish, Kid Pix and Artsy Shots will be published in the PG print edition in mid-May. Winners of last year’s photo contest are not eligible to win the contest -- the same guys keep winning every year. But hey, their photos are great and we'd love to see more, so they're welcome to submit photos for posting only.

See readers’ trout photos here starting Monday.

To get you going, here are some photo examples from my family.

Big Fish

I kept that steelhead, caught on a Wooly Bugger on Seven Mile Creek near Erie.

Kid Pix

That's my nephew TJ Filus of Trafford with his first trout, caught last year on Little Shennango Creek near Sandy Lake.

Artsy Shots

My dad, John G. Hayes of Harrison City, nymphing under the bridge at Twelve Mile Creek near Erie.
