Two down, 21 to go....Signing Day updates

Written by Paul Zeise on .

Two faxes have arrived here at the Pitt SouthSide football facility -- Brandon Sacco and Mark Myers - meaning, the Panthers are on their way towards inking what I think is the best class they've had, from top to bottom, under Dave Wannstedt.

The Post-Gazette, or more accurately, I, was granted access to come and sit with the coaches for some behind the scenes looks at signing day for a story I'll be writing for tomorrow's paper but I'll also be updating here at the Redshirt Diaries all day when things happen and when new faxes come in.

I'll say this - nerves around here are a lot like they probably were in the locker room before the Cincinnati game, which is surprising to me but then again, when your future depends on 18 year olds signing a letter and faxing it to you, I suppose you should be nervous.

Right now, coaches are sort of hanging around the fax machine nervously awaiting the arrival of the letters of the kids they recruited and it has made for some good dialogue.

Sacco was the first to come in, at 7:02, and as soon as the fax machine rang it was like a bunch of kinds running down the steps on Christmas Day.

"Good, we need him -- he could be our center by opening day," Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt joked....
