Lucas Nix was charged with three summary offenses - public drunkeness, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
The incident took place in Pleasant Hills Borough on Dec. 26.
Obviously I am working to get more on this and on Pitt's reaction to this but here is the key - nobody, including Nix, knew he was charged with anything. He was not arrested, he left the scene - as did everyone involved - went home and then the charges came through the mail.
In a nutshell, here is what I can gather about what this is all about - Lucas's brother, Nate, got into some kind of altercation at a house, called Lucas to come help him, Lucas shows up, apparently rips off the screen door or some part of the front door and starts barking for the others to come outside - the police are called, everyone leaves, no punches thrown, nobody hurt - no fighting involved - just some wolfing and jawing among guys who had a few too many pops.
The police officer who arrived on the scene took notes of what happened then, after the fact, wrote the incident up and apparently charged Lucas with those three summary offenses and as is the case in these low level incidents, the charges were sent to him through the mail.
So Lucas Nix didn't find out he was charged with anything until today and Pitt just found out about it and is sorting through it all to figure out what the heck to do in terms of his status for Saturday.
Stay tuned - as soon as we find out what Pitt's response will be I'll update this blog and I will also have today's news and notes from practice here as today was the final day of practice before the bowl game.
Here is Keith Patterson's statement -- -
"“I was informed tonight of an incident involving Lucas Nix during the holiday break. Before any determination is made on his status for Saturday’s bowl game, I want to make sure I have all the necessary information about the occurrence to make the right decision. Lucas was not arrested and just learned of these summary charges tonight.”
Now, the other part of the story that I am trying to confirm is this - the altercation between Nate Nix and the other guys which led to this incident - the other guys apparently are West Virginia players, or at least one of them is. So I am working on trying to confirm who they were and find out if anyone else was charged. This could get fun....
