Four walk-ons earn scholarships

Coach Bill Stewart awarded scholarships to four walk-on football players tonight.

Sophomore tight end Ricky Kovatch, redshirt senior tight end Scott Loving, redshirt senior running back Michael Poitier and redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Josh Taylor each were awarded scholarships.

"It’s a great day for the Mountaineer football program when we can award scholarships to walk-ons," Stewart said. "When walk-ons arrive here at WVU, it is difficult to measure their heart and the other intangibles. It's outstanding to see these players, who come here knowing they have to pay their way through school, and in turn, pay the price, sacrifice and persevere to achieve their goals.

"I am proud of these four football players. Through their academic success, their hard work and dedication and performance on the field, they have represented the Old Gold and Blue in a class manner. It was great to see when the announcement was made how the whole team gave them a thunderous applause. These players are highly respected by their teammates."
