Geno Smith, brought to you by the number Zero

Written by Jenn Menendez on .

Geno Smith continues to lead college football quarterbacks in many categories, including a nation-leading 202.4 rating.

But the statistic that has created the most buzz is a big fat zero. As in, he's thrown 0 interceptions.

Smith has thrown 24 touchdown passes without a single intercption in the mix.

The subject has come up a few times this week, and here is what Smith had to say to reporters Tuesday night, followed by some video.

Smith: "I'm aware of it. But I don't think about it. I don't go out there and try not to throw interceptions. I just play the game. It's kind of a result of having good receivers. They dont' tip the ball in the air. They don't drop it. They run crisp routes. They're always where I need them to be on time."

*** For some interesting analysis on this, check out a blog by Texas Tech Professor Alan Reifman on this very subject.

Smith on the Texas Tech defense: "They have a really good defense as well. Every game has its own story, and I expect them to be tough. On the road, it is kind of similar to what we faced this past weekend at Texas with a hostile crowd. It should be a good game."

Smith: They do a great job on making it tough on quarterbacks. They get a lot of interceptions and turnovers. They really make things complex with the way they react to the ball. They do a great job of reading the quarterback’s eyes and reacting to the ball.
