Secondary on the hot seat

Written by Jenn Menendez on .

West Virginia’s secondary is certainly on the hot seat heading into Saturday’s game against Texas.

Cornerbacks Coach Daron Roberts was adamant this week that his group has moved on from the Baylor game when the defense gave up 581 passing yards of 700 total yards.

Roberts key message is this: one good performance against Texas this week will help put Baylor in the rear view mirror.

Roberts: “Here’s the thing about football. Fans, media, they all remember the last thing that you did. When you go into Austin and you play well people will remember that and Baylor will be an afterthought. Those guys have moved on. We’re 4-0 and for us as a unit we have to think to ourselves how much better can we be if we’re plyaing to our full potential?”

Some key stats to consider:

West Virginia is ranked No. 118 of 120 teams in pass defense, thanks to giving up some 350 yards a game.

Texas QB David Ash, meanwhile is is the No. 2 ranked QB in college football in pass efficiency behind, who else, but Geno Smith. He completed 30-of-37 against Oklahoma a week ago for 307 yards.
