Halftime: WVU leads 34-10

Written by Jenn Menendez on .

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The curtain lifted on Year 2 of the West Virginia offense Saturday and with the exception of one goal-line sequence, looked as good as it’s been billed.

QB Geno Smith completed 19-of-22 passes for 190 yards, the Mountaineers rushed for 223 yards by halftime, piled up 413 total yards of offense and were on pace to close within their 70-point Orange Bowl performance with the 34-10 lead.

The first half scoring drives were as brisk as they were impressive, clocking scores within: 3:36, 2:48, 1:45, 41 seconds, and 1:40.

With the exception of one strange sequence of calls to end the quarter – a quarterback sneak on third and goal from the 3-yard line that failed, it was an impressive opening for the offense.
