Preseason: notes from the players
“He is not really a young guy, but on defense Karl has been standing out. We have been going at it on one-on-ones,” said Austin. “As far as on offense, Copeland has been doing really good in the slot receiver position.
“Devonte Robinson and Copeland are catching my eyes.”
Remember the freshmen – with the exception of the five who enrolled in January – are not available for interviews until Aug. 14, which is next Tuesday. Should be an interesting day.

Center Joe Madsen mentioned today how fun it was to see some of the scraps that erupted at practice Monday. Story here.“We have more seniors on the line and more people that are just ready for the Big 12 and just knowing that we need to bring that intensity every day,” said Madsen. “There was a few scraps yesterday and it was fun to see.”

Corner Pat Miller talked about stepping up as a leader this year – his senior season.
“It just kind of happened. I was in a situation where I had to lead when everybody was looking at you so you just have to do something right,” said Miller. “You can’t fold so I just started doing everything right and people started following…”
“This is my last season and we’ve got a lot of freshmen so it is going to have to start somewhere and I feel like in the past all the seniors have been good leaders – from (Keith) Tandy to J.T. Thomas to all the seniors that alwas led it right. We had a good season so I feel like every senior we’ve got needs to just lead and show examples to the freshmen and sophomores this fall.”

Two players yet to be made available for interviews this preseason are Terence Garvin and Darwin Cook. The two, if you recall, had a minor brush with the law back in May when they allegedly stole snacks from a gas station.
It is unclear when the pair will be available for interviews.
