Advice from a veteran

Written by Jenn Menendez on .

MORGANTOWN, W.V. -- Senior Shawne Alston has had plenty of advice for sophomore Dustin Garrison who is returning form ACL and MCL surgery.

The two are engaged in one of the most intriguing position battles on offense this preseason and speak frequently.  Check today’s story: Click here.

“I just told him that he needed to trust the training staff. He just has to continue getting treatment,” said Alston. “A lot of players will take the attitude that their injury is feeling good so they will stop going to treatment.

“Once you do that, things start to come back and compound. You just have to keep working at it.”

Garrison, who spoke last week about his return, said he’s been mindful of strengthening the supporting muscles in both legs now that he’s full speed.

“Got the ice pack on my other knee,” said Garrison. “The bad one is starting to catch up, now the good one is starting to be the bad one.

"Got to focus in more on the other one. I’m in the training room, stretching more on the good one now.”
