-The lockout? Still a thing.
-Jeff Zatkoff made 25 saves for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Norfolk Admirals.
-The Penguins are 1-6-1-1 in their past nine games.
-Peter Delmas made 20 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-0 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays.
-Happy 34th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Rob Scuderi (right). A fifth-round draft pick in 1998, Scuderi spent parts of five seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 2003-04, Scuderi saw action in 13 games and scored three points. Following the 2004-05 lockout, Scuderi broke through as an NHL regular in 2005-06 by appearing in 57 games and recording four assists. He followed that up in 2006-07 by playing in 78 games and scoring 11 points. That spring's playoffs saw him appear in in five games and fail to record a point. In 2007-08, Scuderi saw action in 71 games while recording fives assists. He helped the franchise return to its third Stanley Cup final appearance that spring by playing in 20 games and recording three assists. During 2008-09, Scuderi established career highs in games (81) and points (16). In the 2009 postseason, he stepped up in a defensive role while playing in 24 games and contributing five points. His biggest contribution during the postseason came in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final when he came through with a series of blocked shots which preserved a 2-1 victory (below). The team would advance to Game 7 where it won the third Stanley Cup title in franchise history. During the 2009 offseason, Scuderi joined the Kings as a free agent. He remains with Los Angeles. In 300 regular season games with the Penguins, Scuderi scored 39 points. In 49 playoff games, he collected eight points.
-Lightning forward J.T. Brown, currently assigned to Syracuse of the AHL, will be sidelined six to eight weeks due to a broken collarbone.
-Blue Jackets forward R.J. Umberger, a native of Plum (No, really!) is giving it a go as a volunteer coach with his alma mater, Ohio State. (PG+)
-Eric Levine made 51 saves for the Robert Morris men's team in a 1-0 shutout of Miami (Ohio) in the championship game of the Three Rivers Classic.
-Casey Bailey had two goals and two assists for Penn State which beat Ohio State, 5-4, in the consolation game.
-Connor Brown and Connor Crisp each scored two goals for the Erie Otters in a 6-4 win against the Barrie Colts.
-Boston College defeated Alabama-Huntsville, 4-2, and gave coach Jerry York 925 career wins, the most in NCAA history. York surpassed former Lake Superior State/Bowling Green/Michigan State coach Ron Mason for the record.
World Junior Championships
-Penguins forward prospect Teddy Blueger scored Latvia's only goal in a 5-1 loss to Sweden.
-Lightning goaltending prospect Andrei Vasilevski made 41 saves for Russia in a 7-0 shutout of Germany.
