-Talks between the NHL and NHLPA carried on until early this morning around 1 a.m.

-"He's been very involved in the process throughout. Obviously, he continues to stay involved and engaged. The other players are glad to have him in there." - Craig Adams in Sidney Crosby's (right) involvement with NHL-NHLPA talks.

-"(Burkle) is a great guy and understands what's going on in the business world. And he truly does care about us playing and getting the league back on the ice. It's good to see him involved." - Hurricanes forward and former Penguin Jordan Staal on Penguins owner Ron Burkle's role in these talks.

-The owners raised their offer for the "make-whole" provision to $300 million.

-Owners reportedly want a 10-year collective bargaining agreement with an opt-out after eight years.

-If talks go well, the NHL is hoping to conduct a 50- to 60-game season.

-The league wants to cap contracts at five years with a five percent limit on salary variance from season to season. It did propose allowing a seven-year option for teams re-signing their own players.

-"As long as we’re talking, we’re hopeful." - Maple Leafs minority owner Larry Tannenbaum.

-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Tom Kuhnhackl will be out “a while" due to an upper-body injury.

-John Hynes needs one more win to become the all-time winningest coach in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins history.

-Evgeni Malkin had a goal and three assists for Metallurg Magnitogorsk in a 7-2 win against Dinamo Riga in Russia's KHL.

-Happy 26th birthday to current Penguins defenseman Matt Niskanen (right). Acquired prior to the 2011 trade deadling along with James Neal in a deal which sent Alex Goligoski to the Stars, Niskanen has spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. He finished 2010-11 by appearing in 18 games and scoring four points. In seven postseason games, he contributed one assist. Last season, Niskanen played in 75 games and scored 21 points. He played in four postseason games this past spring and contributed three points. In 93 regular season career games with the Penguins, Niskanen has scored 25 points. In 11 postseason games, he has scored four points.

-Today would have been the 80th birthday of former Penguins and Hornets goaltender Hank Bassen. Acquired from the Red Wings in exchange for Roy Edwards in the 1967 offseason, Bassen was literally, the first goaltender in franchise history. He made 35 saves for the Penguins in the franchise's first game, a 2-1 loss to the Canadiens, Oct. 11, 1967. Bassen appeared in 25 games and went 7-10-3 that season with a 2.86 goals against average and one shutout. He retired following that season. Bassen passed away at the age of May 29, 2009 at the age of 76.

Atlantic Division

-Flyers forward Claude Giroux skated for the first time since suffering a neck injury Nov. 17.

Northeast Division

-Canadiens forward and former Penguin Colby Armstrong has joined the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL, the Flames' affiliate.

Southeast Division

-Jets forward Alexander Burmistrov (right), currently assigned to St. John's of the AHL, is dealing with an "upper-body" injury.

Central Division

-"I love my game, but I hate like hell what I'm seeing now." - Hockey Hall-of-Famer Ted Lindsay on the lockout. A member of the Red Wings and Blackhawks. Lindsay had a large role in forming the original NHLPA in the 1950s.

Northwest Division

-“I don’t know if they [owners] think they’re dealing with kids or that we’re stupid or think the fans are stupid. It’s a little mind-boggling when you see what’s coming out of their side." - Canucks captain/forward Henrik Sedin.

Pacific Division

-"It is positive that some progress was made, but until you're in the final stages of this thing and things are agreed on by both sides, it's almost foolish to be too optimistic. As a player, it's just foolish to do that to yourself. The way things go, there's good days and bad days. [Tuesday] seemed to be a good day. Hopefully it's not followed by a bad one." - Stars defenseman and former Penguin Alex Goligoski on negotiations.
