Penguins

-The NHL and NHLPA met again last night but neither side extended a formal offer.

-In addition to a charity game in Atlantic City, N.J., James Neal will also participate in a charity game in Windsor, Ont.

-The Penguins were mixed about the Steelers' throwback jerseys.

-Happy 55th birthday to former Penguins forward Tom Roulston (right). Acquired midway through the 1983-84 season in a deal which sent Kevin McClelland and a draft pick to the Oilers, Roulston spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. He finished 1983-84 by appearing in 53 games for the Penguins and scoring 28 points. After spending all of 1985-86 with the Penguins' AHL affiliate in Baltimore, Roulston saw action in five games in 1985-86 and failed to record a point. He was released in the 1986 offseason. In 58 games with the Penguiins, he scored 28 points.

Atlantic Division

-NHL commissioner Gary Bettman called a report by the Philadelphia Daily News which stated that Flyers owners Ed Snider was growing inpatient with Bettman's approach to the lockout as "a fabrication."

-EN Says: Click here for the orginal story. We find it pretty strange that there are 8 million rumors and reports regarding the lockout. And 7,999,999,999 of them don't require a formal denial. Yet this one did. And in the late afternoon on a Saturday during what is essentially still the offseason. Also, the NHL forbids any team management from commenting on the lockout. But that gag order was lifted so Snider could address this report?

Southeast Division

-"You do try to look at the best case scenarios moving forward once the CBA does get done and you gotta look for the cancers and you gotta cut out the cancer. I think when you look at Bill Daly and Bettman they've been polluting this game for far too long." - Panthers forward Kris Versteeg (right) on NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly and commissioner Gary Bettman.

-EN Says: Versteeg made a tidy $3,083,333 last season. We'd say he's done well under Daly and Bettman.

-Capitals forward Brooks Laich, currently playing for the Kloten Flyers of Switzerland's NLA, is dealing with an ankle injury.

Pacific Division

-Sharks goaltender Thomas Greiss has joined the Hannover Scorpions of Germany's DEL.

Adams Divison

-Former Panthers/Blackhawks/Blue Jackets/Oilers/Sabres/Canadiens/Hurricanes defenseman Jaroslav Spacek (right) officially retired. In 880 career regular season games Spacek scored 355 points.

-As pointed out by Dobber Hockey, Spacek was 120 game short of hitting 1,000 in his career. That's the equivalent of one and a half lockouts.
