-Dustin Jeffrey recorded an assist for Medvescak Zagreb in a 5-1 win against EHC Linz in Austria's EBEL.

-Happy 47th birthday to former Penguins forward Larry DePalma. Claimed off waivers from the Islanders late in the 1993-94 season, DePalma appeared in seven games for the Penguins that season and scored one goal. In that spring's postseason, he saw action in one game and failed to record a point. After spending all of 1994-95 with the Penguins' IHL affiliate in Cleveland, DePalma was released in the 1995 offseason.

-Happy 34th birthday to former Penguins forward Toby Petersen (right, with a slightly taller former teammate). A ninth-round pick in 1998, Petersen spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 2000-01, he saw action in 12 games and scored eight points. In 2001-02, Petersen set career-highs in games (79) and points (18). After spending all of 2002-03 and 2003-04 with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Petersen joined the Oilers as a free agent in the 2004 offseason. In 91 games with the Penguins, Petersen scored 26 points. He is currently a member of the Stars.

-Happy 46th birthday to former Penguins forward Brad Lauer. A free agent signing in the 1995 offseason, Lauer's Penguins career amounted to 21 games and five points in 1995-96. He played in 12 postseason games in 1996 and scored two points. He was released in the 1996 offseason.

-Happy 43rd birthday to former Penguins defenseman Corey Foster. A free agent signing in the 1995 offseason, Foster's Penguins career amounted to 11 games and four points in 1995-96. He saw action in three postseason games in the 1996 playoffs and failed to record a point. In the 1996 offseason, Foster was claimed off waivers by the Islanders.

Atlantic Division

-"What’s discouraging is that the league seems to be going along with a playbook that is not … suited for negotiation. It’s the same thing they did eight years ago. It’s the same thing the NBA did, the NFL did, is just putting in deadlines and trying to pressure players into taking bad deals. And that’s not really negotiation, and that’s why it’s not going anywhere.” - Rangers goaltender Martin Biron (right) on negotiations with the NHL.

Northeast Division

-"They would rather put the game in jeopardy and try to strongarm us and shake us down." - Bruins forward Shawn Thornton on negotiations with the NHL.

-"It seems to me they’re not serious until they want to be. Unfortunately, the players have to continue to be patient with that." - Canadiens captain/forward Brian Gionta on negotiations with the NHL.

Southeast Division

-"I’m shaking my head every time I wake up. We’re telling everybody we’re going to go to 50 percent, let’s share responsibility to get there. They don’t want that. Again, they want to hit us. It’s us, 24 percent last time and now 12 percent, and doing that when the game has grown the most, it’s tough to take." - Lightning forward Martin St. Louis on negotiations with the NHL.

Central Division

-Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson has joined Södertälje of Sweden's Allsvenskan for the duration of the lockout.

Northwest Division

-"I don’t care [about the rhetoric] in the media and on Twitter or whatever from both sides. It’s very close. It’s like, we’re both at 50-50. We’re extremely close when you look at the whole big picture. It sure seems like it would be an absolute shame to lose more hockey when we’re so close. Just get in the same room and get this thing hammered out. Really, when you look at the numbers, it’s extremely close." - Wild forward Matt Cullen (right).

-"It's disappointing. If you can't afford to (sign contracts) then you shouldn't do it. (Leipold) signed us to contracts. At the time he said everything was fine. Yeah, it's disappointing. A couple months before, everything is fine, and now they want to take money out of our contracts that we already signed." - Wild defenseman Ryan Suter on owner Craig Leipold. Suter joined the Wild as a free agent this summer.

Norris Division

-How could the lockout impact the 2014 Olympic games in Sochi?

-Connor Brown had a hat trick for the Erie Otters who lost to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in a shootout, 6-5.

-P.J. Musico made 34 saves for the Penn State men's team which defeated Army, 5-0. It was the first shutout in the history of Penn State's program.

-Kesley Thomas netted a hat trick for the Robert Morris' women's team in a 3-3 tie with Northeastern.

-Taylor Gross and Shannon Yoxheimer each netted a goal and an assist for the Penn State's women's team in a 2-2 tie with RIT.
