-"We definitely have something to prove this year." - Crosby on his team.
-"[Hockey-related revenue] is the same as last year, but it's still subject to interpretation. So 50 percent of what?" - Brooks Orpik (right) on the NHL's latest offer to the NHLPA.
-How much of a factor will escrow be in negotiations?
-“Simply put, the owners' new proposal, while not quite as Draconian as their previous proposals, still represents enormous reductions in player salaries and individual contracting rights. As you will see, at the 5 percent industry growth rate the owners predict, the salary reduction over six years exceeds $1.6 billion. What do the owners offer in return?” - NHL head Donald Fehr on the NHL's offer.

-Happy 58th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Tom Edur. Acquired midway through the 1977-78 season in a deal which sent Dennis Owchar to the Colorado Rockies, Edur's Penguins career amounted to a pretty productive 58 games and 43 points during that campaign. In the 1978 offseason, he retired at the age of 23 to devote himself to religion after becoming a Jehovah's Witness.-Happy 31st birthday to former Penguins forward Chris Minard. A free agent signing in the 2007 offseason, Minard spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 2007-08, Mindard saw action in 15 games and scored two points. He followed that up in 2008-09 by playing in 20 games and recording three points. In the 2009 offseason, Minard joined the Oilers as a free agent. He is currently a member of Kölner Haie with Germany's DEL.
Atlantic Division
-“If that proposal was made in the beginning I think we would have been a little more ahead of the game right now. From what I understand, there is so much more than the 50-50 number to what actual HRR is. But either way you look at it, it’s still quite a big reduction in our salaries and everything else.” - Devils forward Dainius Zubrus (right) on the NHL's latest offer.
Northeast Division
-"I remember the last time (during the 2004-05 lockout) when the players made an offer that we really thought was going to solve it. But then the NHL rejected it and they ended up cancelling the season. Until it’s done, it’s not done.”- Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson on the NHL's latest CBA offer.
-Sabres defenseman Alexander Sulzer has joined ERC Ingolstadt of Germany's DEL for the duration of the lockout.
Southeast Division
-"I'm 29 and I feel like there's a lot of hockey left in my body and I'm as energized as ever. Maybe it'll be that this break will be a blessing in disguise, that guys like myself, crashing and banging every night, will have rested their wounds and when it's time to get back at it, we'll go full tilt." - Jets forward and former Penguin Chris Thorburn on the lockout.
Central Division
-"After getting into the guts of the deal, it's serious negotiation time. It's certainly a proposal that can't be ignored." - Red Wings forward Dan Cleary (right) on the NHL's new offer.
-"If they were that desperate to conserve an 82-game season and get things done, this would have been done already. There's no real effort there." - Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews on the NHL's latest offer.
-"Obviously, everyone wants to make more money out of the deal, and it is a huge pay-cut on our half, but hopefully something can come out of it where we start talking and start talking for real as opposed to in the past where it was, ‘This is our way, or we’re locking you out.’ It seems like maybe there’s a little room to talk, so that’s exciting in that respect." - Predators defenseman and former Penguin Hal Gill on the NHL's newest offer.
Northwest Division
-Negotiations between the Oilers and Edmonton city officials on building a new arena have broken off.
