Penguins

-The Penguins released their preseason schedule:

Sept. 24 - at Columbus, 7 p.m.
Sept. 26 - vs. Detroit, 7 p.m.
Sept. 29 - vs. Columbus, 3 p.m.
Sept. 30 - at Chicago, 7 p.m.
Oct. 3 - at Detroit, 7 p.m.
Oct. 5 - vs. Chicago, 7 p.m.

-The Sept. 29 games will be the team's annual giveaway game where tickets are given away to kids.

-The Blues hired Penguins amateur scout Dave Allison to coach their AHL affiliate in Peoria. (PG+)

-Today would have been the 83rd birthday of former Penguins coach Johnny Wilson. Hired in the 1977 offseason, Wilson spent three seasons as the team's head coach. During his tenure, Wilson coached 240 games and had a record of 91-105-44 and reached the playoffs two times. He was replaced in the 1980 offseason by Eddie Johnston. Wilson passed away Dec. 27, 2011.

Atlantic Division

-Devils coach Peter DeBoer revealed that forward Ilya Kovalchuk had dealt with a herniated disc in his back throughout most of the postseason.

-While Devils captain Zach Parise wouldn't guarantee he would re-sign with New Jersey, he did guarantee he wouldn't sign with the rival Rangers.

-Will the Devils bring back former Penguins forward Petr Sykora or goaltender Johan Hedberg?

Northeast Division

-The Canadiens hired former Canadiens/Maple Leafs/Nordiques/Avalanche/Rangers defenseman Sylvain Lefebvre as head coach of their AHL affiliate in Hamilton, former Red Wings/Bruins/Blackhawks/Senators forward Martin Lapointe as director of player development and former Canadiens/Avalanche defenseman Patrice Brisebois as player development coach.

Southeast Division

-The Jets re-signed forward Jim Slater to a three-year contract worth a total of $4.8 million. Slater, 29, will have a salary cap hit of $1.6 million. In 78 games last season, Slater scored 21 points (13 goals, eight assists).

-EN Says: Slater is a typical third or fourth line type of checking center who is a big part of Winnipeg's penalty kill. He is a good skater and brings plenty of energy and can even chip in a little offense. This is a nice contract for the Jets.

-The Lightning re-signed goaltender Riku Helenius to a two-year contract which is a two-way deal in in 2012-13 and one-way in 2013-14. A first-round pick in 2006 (No. 15 overall), Helenius spent parts of the last three seasons in Europe.

Northwest Division

-The Canucks field for arbitration against restricted free agent Mason Raymond.

-Former Oilers/Nordiques/Canucks/Hurricanes/Flames/Panthers/Predators forward Martin Gelinas has joined the Flames as an assistant coach. Gelinas previously worked as the Predators director of player development.

-The Avalanche is not expected to re-sign forward Jay McClement.

Pacific Division

-The Kings and the Stanley Cup paid a visit to Dodger Stadium last night:

-Vin Scully + Hockey history = Win.

-If you haven't seen the sons of Kings captain Dustin Brown blowing chocolate milk bubbles into the Stanley Cup while wearing their Spiderman pajamas, here you go:

-The Kings will hold their victory parade today.

-Kings trainer Pete Demers drank a 19-year-old bottle of Budweiser in celebration of the franchise's first Stanley Cup title. The beer was delivered to the Kings' dressing room in the Montreal Forum during the 1993 Stanley Cup Final, Los Angeles' only other appearance in a Final.

-After 39 years, Kings hall-of-famebroadcaster Bob Miller finally got to drink from the Stanley Cup.

-The Goldwater Institute, a conservative watchdog group, has filed a lawsuit on behalf of two taxpayers to block a lease agreement betwen the city of Glendale, Ariz. and Greg Jamison, a potential buyer of the Coyotes.

Smythe Division

-Former Bruins/Capitals/Sabres defenseman Shaone Morrisonn has joined Spartak Moskva of Russia's KHL.
