Penguins center Evgeni Malkin was named a finalist for the Hart Trophy, the NHL's MVP award as voted by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
Malkin led the NHL this past regular season in scoring with 109 points (50 goals, 59 assists) in 75 games. It is the third time he has been named a finalist for the award. The previous were in 2008 and 2009.
The other finalists were:
-Lighting forward Steven Stamkos who was second in the NHL in scoring with 97 points (60 goals, 37 assists) in 82 games. He led the NHL in goals.
-Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. In 62 games this season, Lundqvist had a record of 39-18-5, a 1.97 goals against average, a .930 save percentage and eight shutouts.
The awards will be given out June 20 in Las Vegas.
