Penguins sign first-rounder Bennett - 04-13-12

The Penguins have signed 2010 first-round pick Beau Bennett to a three-year entry-level contract.

The contract will begin next season and will run through the 2014-15 campaign. According to the Post-Gazette's Dave Molinari, the cap hit will be $900,000 if he plays in the NHL. (PG+)

Playing with the University of Denver the past two seasons, Bennett, a right winger, played in 10 games as a sophomore this season and scored 13 points (four goals, nine assists). He was limited to 10 games due to a wrist injury.

As a freshman, Bennett scored 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists) in 37 games.

Bennett, 20, is a native of Gardena, Calif.
