Sabres beat Rangers, 4-1; Penguins can claim first place tomorrow - 03-23-12

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

The door is open for the Penguins.

Drew Stafford had two goals and an assist and led the Sabres to a 4-1 road win against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden tonight.

The loss leaves the Rangers one point ahead of the Penguins in the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division standings with 99 points. The Penguins who have 98 points, have a game in hand.

A win in Ottawa by the Penguins and a Rangers' loss to the Maple Leafs tomorrow would move the Penguins ahead of the Rangers.
