Staal fined for boarding Coburn - 02-17-12

Penguins forward Jordan Staal was fined $2,500 by the NHL for a boarding minor against Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn today.

The hit occurred at 9:56 of the second period during today's game at the Wells Fargo Center. Coburn returned the the game following hte hit.

The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

EN Says: Despite all its inconsistency this season, the NHL has made a pretty steady effort to crack down on hits like this. Staal boarded Coburn. Period. This is the right call.
