Penguins recall MacIntyre - 01-24-12

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

The Penguins have recalled forward/enforcer Steve MacIntyre from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL.

In 10 NHL game this season, MacIntyre, 31, has not scored and has two penalty minutes.

In seven AHL games, MacIntyre (6-foot-5, 250 pounds)  has no points and 16 penalty minutes.

EN Says: This is kind of an odd move. With Arron Asham sidelined due to a concussion, we can only conclude the Penguins would rather have a fighter who isn't a defenseman (sorry Deryk Engelland fans) available to them in the lineup. And MacIntyre happens to be the best internal option available.

Plus, it's not exactly a coincidence that in the span of just over a week, the Penguins saw Tampa Bay's Vincent Lecavalier sucker punched Evgeni Malkin, Montreal's PK Subban slew footed Chris Kunitz and Washington's Alex Ovechkin charged Zbynek Michalek while Asham was out of the lineup.
