Shootout success - 01-18-12

With talents such as Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin at their disposal (when healthy), the Penguisn tend to get lauded for their success in the shootout based on their offensive abilities.
The other part of their shootout success tends to get completely overlooked.
In other words, Marc-Andre Fleury (above, stopping Carolina's Jeff Skinner) doesn't get the credit he deserves a lot of times in this area.
Among active players, only two other goaltenders, both all-stars, have more career wins in shoots than Fleury.
| Player, teams | Wins |
| Henrik Lundqvist, Rangers | 39 |
| Martin Brodeur, Devils | 38 |
| Marc-Andre Fleury, Penguins | 31 |
| Ryan Miller, Sabres | 31 |
| Kari Lehtonen, Thrashers/Stars | 27 |
In terms of shootout save percentage, Fleury is also the third-best active goaltender in this statistic:
| Player, teams | Shots | Goals | Save Pct. |
| Pekka Rinne, Predators | 116 | 25 | .784 |
| Johan Hedberg, Stars/Thrashers/Devils | 111 | 25 | .775 |
| Marc-Andre Fleury, Penguins | 145 | 34 | .766 |
| Henrik Lundqvist, Rangers | 254 | 60 | .764 |
| Antti Niemi, Blackhawks/Sharks | 85 | 21 | .753 |
Note: Backup goaltender Brent Johnson has allowed 13 goals in 55 career shootout shots (.764).
