-The Penguins responded. With questions circling around Sidney Crosby and the team mirred in a six-game losing streak, the Penguins responded. That was as gutsy of an effort they have given all season.

-The top line of Evgeni Malkin, Chris Kunitz and James Neal stepped up. They were dangerous all game long. They need to be in order for this team to succed.

-Killjoy Alert: The Panthers stunk. They had nothing in this game. They came out with a completely flat effort. At least two of the Penguins goals came off mistakes by the Panthers.

-The Penguins defense was sharp. The blue liners cut down on mistakes and really limited the chances the Panthers' top scorers could create.

-Marc-Andre Fleury was once again outstanding. He has to be in order for this team to weather this storm.

-Richard Park looked like he played a strong game, particularly on defense.

-Scott Clemmensen has had some better nights.

-The Penguins led in shots, 41-26.

-Neal led the game with nine shots.

-Malkin was right behind him with seven.

-Add in Kunitz's three shots, and that line had 19 shots.

-Mike Santorelli led the Panthers with four.

-Brian Campbell led the game with 27:12 of ice time.

-Paul Martin led Penguins with 23:32.

-The Panthers controlled faceoffs, 37-23 (62 percent).

-Stephen Weiss was 14 for 17 (82 percent).
