-Patrick Killeen made 23 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-2 loss to the Reading Royals.

Happy 54th birthday to former Penguins forward Dave Hunter. Acquired early in the 1987-88 along with Paul Coffey and Wayne Van Dorp in a deal which sent Craig Simpson, Dave Hannan, Moe Mantha and Chris Joseph to the Oilers, Hunter's Penguins' career amounted to 59 games and 29 points that season. Prior to the 1988-89 offseason, he was transfered back to the Oilers as compensation for the Penguins claiming Dave Hannan off waivers.

Atlantic Division

-A goal and two assists from former Penguins prospect Matt Moulson led the Islanders to a 4-1 win against the Oilers. Fire Ray Shero. John Tavares and P.A. Parenteau each added a goal and an assist for New York while teammate Evgeni Nabokov made 28 saves.

Northeast Division

-Shootout goals by Jason Spezza, Daniel Alfredsson and Bobby Butler gave the Senators a 3-2 win against the Sabres. Erik Condra had two assists for Ottawa while teammate Craig Anderson made 26 saves. Former Penguin Jordan Leopold recorded two assists for Buffalo. Fire Ray Shero.

-The Sabres recalled defenseman T.J. Brennan from Rochester of the AHL.

Southeast Division

-A hat trick by Steven Stamkos led the Lightning to a 5-2 win against the Hurricanes. Steve Downie added a goal and two assists for Tampa Bay while teammates Ryan Malone and Martin St. Louis each recorded three assists. Former Penguin Mathieu Garon made 24 saves in the victory. Fire Ray Shero. Captain Eric Staal collected two assists for Carolina.

-Prior to the game, the Lightning unveiled a statue of franchise founder Phil Esposito:

-Tomas Fleischmann scored two goals for the Panthers who beat the Canadiens' 3-2. Scott Clemmensen made 17 saves in the victory.

-Hit of the Night: Montreal's Alexei Emelin on Florida's Kris Verteeg:

-Not to be outdone, Florida's Brian Cambpell smacked Montreal's Lars Eller:

-Panthers forward Krys Barch was ejected from the game after he allegedly directed a racial slur at Canadiens defenseman PK Subban who is black.

-“He hopes there is an understanding that there was no ill intent on his part. It was a misunderstanding. He wants his record to be clean when all this is over.'' - Scott Norton, Barch's agent.

-Florida goaltender Jose Theodore left the game in the second period due to an apparent leg injury.

-Painful times for Theodore as teammate Dmitry Kulikov fell on him:

-Ondrej Pavelec made 22 saves for the Jets in a 3-2 defeat of the Maple Leafs. Antti Miettinen recorded two assists for Winnipeg. Captain Dion Phaneuf had two assists for Toronto.

-Two goals by Alex Ovechkin led the Capitals to a 4-2 win against the Blue Jackets. Dennis Wideman added a goal and two assists for Washington while teammate Tomas Vokoun made 35 saves.

-Ovechin has seven goals in his last eight games.

-The Panthers demoted forward Evgenii Dadonov to San Antonio of the AHL.

-The Jets demoted forward Patrice Cormier to St. John's of the AHL.

Central Division

-Jimmy Howard made 31 saves for the Red Wings in a 3-0 shutout of the rival Blues. Detroit has won 12 consecutive home games.

-Blues defenseman Ian Cole will have a disciplinary hearing with the NHL for a hit to the head of Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader. The hit in question:

-The Blues demoted forward Adam Cracknell to Peoria of the AHL.

-The Blue Jackets recalled defenseman David Savard from Springfield of the AHL.

-Predators defenseman Kevin Klein is expected to return to the lineup after missing six games due to an illness.

Northwest Division

-Captain Milan Hejduk scored two goals for the Avalanche in a 4-2 defeat of the Ducks. Ryan O'Reilly recorded two assists for Colorado while teammate Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 18 saves. Bobby Ryan collected a goal and an assist for Anaheim.

-During the game, the Ducks paid tribute to Giguere, their former goaltender:

-Flames forward Olli Jokinen is expected to play in his 1,000th career game tonight.

-The Oilers demoted defenseman Colten Teubert to Oklahoma City of the AHL.

Pacific Division

-Trevor Daley had a goal and two assists for the Stars who beat the Bruins, 4-2. Tom Wandell added a goal and an assist for Dallas while teammate Jamie Benn recorded two assists. Kari Lehtonen made 18 saves in the victory. David Krejci collected two assists for Boston.

-A goal and an assist for Justin Williams led the Kings to a 4-1 defeat of the Canucks. Andrei Loktionov and Slava Voynov each recorded two assists for Los Angeles. Jonathan Quick mad 27 saves in the victory.

-The Stars recalled defenseman Jordie Benn, the older brother of Stars forward Jamie Benn, from Texas of the AHL.

IIHF World Junior Championships

-Senators forward prospect Mark Stone collected a goal and an assist for Canada which beat the rival United States, 3-2.

-An overtime goal by Blackhawks forward prospect Joakim Nordström gave Sweden a 4-3 win against Russia.

-Avalanche goaltending prospect Sami Aittokallio made 36 saves for Finland in a 4-0 shutout of the Czech Republic.

-Red Wings forward prospect Tomas Jurco had four assists for Slovakia which defeated Switzerland, 6-4.

Adams Division
