-Brad Thiessen made 19 saves for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-1 win against the Portland Pirates. Alex Grant recorded two assists for the Penguins.

-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins released forward Niko Dimitrakos from his 25-game professional tryout agreement.

-Two goals by Chris Barton led the Wheeling Nailers to a 5-1 rout of the Reading Royals. Patrick Killeen made 20 saves for the Nailers.

-Happy 51st birthday to former Penguins defenseman Mike Ramsey. A member of the 1980 United State Olympic hockey team, Ramsey was acquired at the 1993 trade deadline in a deal which sent Bob Errey to the Sabres. He spent parts of two seasons in Pittsburgh. He finished 1992-93 by appearing in 12 games and scoring three points. In 12 postseason games that spring, Ramsey recorded six assists. The 1993-94 campaign saw him appear in 65 games and record four points. During that spring's playoffs, he saw action in one game and failed to record a point. During the 1994 offseason, Ramsey joined the Red Wings as a free agent. In 77 regular season games with the Penguins, Ramsey scored seven points. In 13 postseason games, he recorded one assist.

Atlantic Division

-An overtime goal and an assist by Claude Giroux gave the Flyers a 4-3 win against the Ducks. Former Penguins captain Jaromir Jagr collected two goals and an assist for Philadelphia while teammate Kimmo Timonen recorded three assists. Fire Craig Patrick. Ilya Bryzgalov made all of 19 saves in the win. Saku Koivu netted two assists for Anaheim which lost in the debut of new head coach Bruce Boudreau.

-Sabres forward Nathan Gerbe took a skate to the face from teammate Paul Gaustad last night:

-Gerbe "only" suffered cuts to the nose and lip.

-Senators forward Chris Neil is expected to return to the lineup after missing eight games due to an ankle injury.

-The Senators acquired forward prospect Rob Klinkhammer from the Blackhawks in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2013.

-Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer was given medical clearance to resume playing after missing 18 games due to a concussion.

Southeast Division

-Capitals forward Alexander Semin is day to day due to a shoulder injury.

-The Panthers acquired AHL forward James Wright from the Lightning in exchange for AHL defensemen Mike Kostka and Evan Oberg.

Central Division

-Captain Jonathan Toews' shootout goal gave the Blackhawks a 5-4 win against the Islanders. Patrick Kane recorded two assists for Chicago while Corey Crawford made 37 saves in the victory. Former Penguins prospect Matt Moulson and P.A. Parenteau each collected a regulation goal and an assist for New York.

-Defensive Play of the Night: Toews stealing the puck off New York's Milan Jurcina then converting it into a goal:

-A goal and an assist by Pavel Datsyuk led the Red Wings to a 4-1 win against the Sabres. Jimmy Howard made 27 saves in the victory.

-"I was obviously a little bit nervous at first. I'm not the biggest guy out there. So, I got to use my speed and get pucks behind their `D' and make trouble for their defense." - Former Penguins forward Chris Conner on making his season debut with the Red Wings.

-The Red Wings demoted forward Fabian Brunnstrom to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

-Blues forward David Perron is scheduled to make his season debut tonight against the Blackhawks. He has miss the past 97 games due to a concussion.

-Predators defenseman defenseman Teemu Laakso cleared waivers and was demoted to Milwaukee of the AHL.

Northwest Division

-A shootout goal by Ryan O'Reilly gave the Avalanche a 3-2 win against the Blues. O'Reilly had a regulation goal and an assist while Semyon Varlamov made 35 saves in the victory.

-Save of the Night: St. Louis' Jaroslav Halak on O'Reilly in overtime:

-Ryan Jones' first career hat trick led the Oilers to a 6-5 victory against the Blue Jackets. Ales Hemsky added a goal and an assist for Edmonton while teammates Tom Gilbert, Shawn Horcoff and Ryan Smyth each recorded two assists. Devan Dubnyk made 36 saves in the win. Derek Dorsett scored two goals for Columbus.

-Kyle Brodziak had two goals for the Wild in a 4-2 win against the Devils. Niklas Backstrom made seven saves in the victory. Captain Zach Parise collected a goal and an assist for New Jersey.

-Goal of the Night: Brodziak refusing to be denied by New Jersey's Martin Brodeur:

-With Backstrom dealing with a groin injury, the Wild recalled goaltender Matt Hackett from Houston of the AHL. Minnesota also placed defenseman Justin Falk on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, recalled defenseman Nate Prosser from Houston and demoted David McIntyre to Houston.

-Flames defenseman Mark Giordano is dealing with a leg injury.

Pacific Division

-The Kings placed forward Mike Richards on injured reserve "upper-body" injury.

-Sharks general manager Doug Wilson wants to keep the Red Wings in the Western Conference.

Adams Division

-Two goals by Cody Wydo led the Robert Morris men's team to a 5-2 win against Sacred Heart.

-Max Strang made 37 saves for the Mercyhurst mens' team in a 2-1 defeat of Army.

-Bailey Bram had two goals for the Mercyhurst women's team in a 5-4 loss to Cornell.
