Northeast Division

-The Bruins demoted forwards Lane MacDermid and Max Sauve to Providence of the AHL.

-The Maple Leafs demoted goaltender Ben Scrivens to Toronto of the AHL.

Southeast Division

-A goal and an assist by Mike Green gave the Capitals a 4-1 win against the Blackhawks.

-This game saw Chicago's Peter Leblanc appear to hit Washington's Alexander Semin in the head:

-Leblanc received a match penalty for the hit.

-The Jets released former Penguins forward Janne Pesonen and demoted defenseman Paul Postma and forward Jason Gregoire to St. Johns of the AHL.

Central Division

-It looks like forward Brandon Saad, a native of Gibsonia who was drafted in the second round this summer, will start the season on the Blackhawks' NHL roster.

-The Red Wings demoted goaltenders Joey MacDonald, Jordan Pearce, defensemen Travis Ehrhardt, Garnet Exelby, Doug Janik, Brian Lashoff, forwards Tomas Tatar, Gustav Nyquist, Chris Conner, Landon Ferraro, Brent Raedeke and Joakim Andersson to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

-The Predators demoted forwards Gabriel Bourque, Chris Mueller and defenseman Roman Josi to Milwaukee of the AHL.

Northwest Division

-Sidney Crosby isn't the only Canadian Olympic hero who might not start the season. Flames captain Jarome Iginla (right) could be sidelined due to an ailing back.

-The Avalanche demoted forwards Brad Malone, Patrick Bordeleau and defenseman Tyson Barrie and goaltender Trevor Cannto Lake Erie of the AHL.

-The Oilers demoted forwards Gilbert Brule, Josh Green, Ryan Keller, Ryan O'Marra and Teemu Hartikainen to Oklahoma City of the AHL.

Pacific Division

-With the Ducks opening the season in Finland, Anaheim forward Teemu Selanne returns home a conquering hero.

-The Stars demoted forwards Eric Godard, Travis Morin, Raymond Sawada, Colton Sceviour, Francis Wathier, goaltender Richard Bachman and defenseman Maxime Fortunus to Texas of the AHL.
