Flyers beat Islanders, clinch Atlantic Divison; Penguins to face Lightning in first round - 04-09-11

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

Andrej Meszaros had two goals and two assists for the Flyers in a 7-4 defeat of the Islanders tonight at the Wells Fargo Center. The victory clinched the Altantic Division title and second place in the Eastern Conference for the Flyers. As a result, the Penguins will finish in fourth place regardless of tomorrow's game against the Thrashers and will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs.

The Penguisn could match the Flyers 106 points with a win tomorrow but the Flyers have the first tiebreaker in terms of having more non-shootout wins than the Penguins. The Flyers have won 43 games in regulation or overtime. The Penguins have 38.

The Penguins went 2-2-0 against the Lightning this season. The home team won each game of the four-game season series. The Penguins scored 17 goals against Tampa Bay in 2010-11 and allowed nine.

This will be the first time the franchises have met in postseason play.
