-Mikael Bedard scored two goals for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-3 win against the Kalamazoo Wings. Tyler Murovich recorded three assists for the Nailers while Peter Delmas made 26 saves in the victory.

-Happy 52nd birthday to former Penguins forward Tom Cassidy. A free agent signing prior to the 1977-78 season, Cassidy's entire NHL career consisted of 26 games for the Penguins that campain in which he scored seven points. He spent the rest of his professional career in the minors before retiring in 1979.

Atlantic Division

-The NHL is reviewing the officiating from Saturday's Islanders-Devils game.

Northeast Division

-Paul Gaustad and Thomas Vanek each had a goal and an assist for the Sabres in a 6-4 defeat of the rival Senators. Cranberry native Mike Weber added three assists for Buffalo while teammates Tim Connolly, Jason Pominville and Andrej Sekera each recorded two assists. Jhonas Enroth made 34 saves in the win. Jason Spezza netted two goals and two assists for Ottawa.

-Former Sabres all-star forward Rick Martin, a member of the legendary French Connection line, died following a car crash. He was 59.

-Canadiens defenseman Brent Sopel will be sidelined indefinitely due to a broken hand.

Southeast Division

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Mike Knuble's overtime goal gave the Capitals a 4-3 win against the Blackhawks. Dennis Wideman recorded two assists for Washington while Braden Holtby made 27 saves in the victory. The Capitals, who have won eight consecutive games, are in second place in the Eastern Conference with 90 points, two more than the fourth-place Penguins.

Pacific Division

-Jonathan Quick made 21 saves for the Kings in a 4-3 win at Dallas. Former Penguin Alexei Ponikarovsky had two assists for Los Angeles. Fire Ray Shero.

-Two goals by Lauri Korpikoski helped the Coyotes win at Anaheim, 5-2. Captain Shane Doan added a goal and two assists for Phoenix while Ilya Bryzgalov made 36 saves in the victory. Corey Perry scored both of the Ducks' goals.

-Ducks goaltender Ray Emery saw NHL action for the first time in 13 months.

Smythe Division

-The NHL's general manager meetings begin today in Boca Raton, Fla.
