Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

Ray Shero spoke to the media this afternoon about today's acquisition of former all-star Alex Kovalev. A few of the highlights:

-Shero said Kovalev's public feud with Senators coach Cory Clouston was not a concern.

-In regards to Kovalev's meager production this season (27 points in 54 games), Shero compared it to Bill Guerin's poor 2008-09 season prior to a trade which brought him to the Penguins from the Islanders at the 2009 trade deadline. Guerin's numbers picked up after the trade and he played a significan role in winning the the Stanley Cup.

-He cited owner Mario Lemieux and goaltending coach Gilles Meloche for going to bat on Kovalev's character.

-When asked if he had the cap space and inclination to make another move prior to Monday's trade deadline, Shero said, "Yes and yes."

The Penguins' Web site has audio of an interview with Kovalev. Some highlights:

-Kovalev said he was excited about going back to Pittsburgh and having another chance at playing in the playoffs again.

-Said his time in Pittsburgh allowed him to be the player he wanted to be.
