-With goaltender Brad Thiessen (leg) on the mend, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goaltender John Curry was selected for the AHL star-game.

-Penguins goaltending prospect Alexandre Pechurskiy has joned the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on a professional tryout basis.

-Happy 53nd birthday to former Penguins forward Mark Taylor. Acquired early in the 1983-84 offseason along with Ron Flockhart, Andy Brickley and draft picks in a deal which sent Ron Sutter and draft picks to the Flyers, Taylor spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. he finished 1983-84 by appearing in 59 games for the Penguins and scoring 55 points. After 47 games and 17 points in 1984-85, Taylor was traded to the Capitals in exchange for for Jim McGeough. In 106 games with the Penguins, he scored 72 points.

-Today would've been the 61th birthday of former Penguins coach Ivan Hlinka. Hired in the 2000 offseason, Hlinka spent parts of two seasosn with the Penguins. In 2000-01, he guided the club to a 42-28-12 record as well as a memorable run to the Eastern Conference final during that seasons' playoffs. After four games and a 0-4-0 record in 2001-02, Hlinka was fired and replaced by Rick Kehoe. The only Czech coach in NHL history, his career regular season record with the Penguins was 0-4-0. Hlinka was killed in a 2004 car accident in the Czech Republic.

Atlantic Division

-Daniel Briere had a goal and an assist for the Flyers in a 5-2 win against the Canadiens. Chris Pronger recorded four assists for Philadelphia while captain Mike Richards added two assists. Sergei Bobrovsky made 29 saves in the victory. Mathieu Darche netted a goal and an assist for Montreal.

-The Flyers earned their 1,000th home win in franchise history.

-The Islanders officially suspended goaltender Evgeni Nabokov for not reporting to the team.

Northeast Division

-An overtime goal by Shaone Morrison gave the Sabres a 5-2 win at Ottawa. Thomas Vanek recorded two assists for Buffalo while Ryan Miller made 27 saves in the victory.

-It wasn't all bad for the Senators. Check out this goal by Chris Kelly:

-The Senators recalled goaltender Mike Brodeur from Binghamton of the AHL.

-The Sabres demoted defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani back to Portland of the AHL.

Southeast Division

-Rostislav Olesz and Mike Santorelli each had a goal and an assist for the Panthers in a 4-3 win against the Rangers. Tomas Vokoun made 32 saves in the victory. Mats Zuccarello recorded three assists for New York.

Northwest Division

-Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Chuck Kobasew each netted a goal and an assist for the Wild in a 4-2 win at Chicago. Niklas Backstrom made 31 saves in the victory. Captain Jonathan Toews recorded two assists for the Blackhawks.

-Funny Face of the Night: Chicago's Dave Bolland:

-A goal and an assist by Taylor Hall helped the Oilers win at Phoenix, 4-3. Captain Shawn Horcoff recorded twho assists while Devan Dubnyk recorded 24 saves in the victory. Scottie Upshall scored two goals for the Coyotes.

-The Flames praced forward Craig Controy on injured reserve.

Pacific Division

-Teemu Selanne had a goal and an assist for the Ducks in a 3-2 win at Columbus. Teammates Saku Koivu and Lubomir Visnovsky each recorded two assists while Jonas Hiller made 35 saves in the victory. Derick Brassard netted a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets.

-Former Ducks draft pick Jason Bailey, a Jewish player, has sued the Anaheim organziation over claims of religious descrimination.

-With forwards Jamie Benn and Tom Wandell dealing with undisclosed injuries, the Stars recalled recalled forwards Aaron Gagnon and Travis Morin from Texas of the AHL and demoted forward Francis Wathier to Texas.

Adams Division

-With Oilers forward Ales Hemsky (concussion) and Thrashers defenseman Tobias Enstrom (hand) unavailable, Wild forward Martin Havlat and defenseman Keith Yandle were added to the All-Star Lame Game rosters.

-Former Oilers/Blue Jackets forward Peter Sarno joined Alleghe of the Seria A in Italy.

-Happy 50th birthday to former Oilers/Kings/Blues/Rangers legend Wayne Gretzky.\
