-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Brad Thiessen left the game due to a leg ailment.
-A hat trick and two assists by Nick Petersen led the Wheeling Nailers to a 6-4 win against the Trenton Devils. Casey Pierro-Zabotel added a goal and two assists for the Nailers while Peter Delmas made 28 saves in the victory.
-Happy 49th birthday to former Penguins defenseman and picnic jug enthusiast (below) Randy Boyd. A third-round pick in 1980, Boyd spent parts of three seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 1981-82, Boyd appeared in 23 games and recorded two assists. He played in three playoff games that spring and failed to record a point. In 1982-83, Boyd saw action in 56 games and scored 18 points. After five ganes and one assist in 1983-84, Boyd was traded to the Blackhawks in exchange for Greg Fox. In 84 regular season games, Randy Boyd scored 21 points.

-Happy 33rd birthday to former Penguins forward Martin Sonnenberg. A free agent signing prior to 1998-99, Sonnenberg spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 1998-99, he appeared in 44 games and scored two points. He followed that up in 1999-2000 by playing in 14 games and netting three points. After spending the next two seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, he joined the Flames as a free agent in the 2002 offseason. In 58 games with the Penguins, he scored five points.

-Happy 37th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Joel Bouchard. Acquired midway through the 2002-03 season along with Richard Lintner, Rico Fata and Mikael Samuelsson in a deal which sent Mike Wilson, Alex Kovalev, Janne Laukkanen and Dan LaCouture to the Rangers, Bouchard's Penguins' career amounted to seven games and one assist that campaign. During the 2003 offseason, he joined the Sabres as a free agent.
Atlantic Division
-Two goals by Patrik Elias led the Devils to a 3-1 win at Philadelphia. Henrik Tallinder added a goal and an assist for New Jersey while teammate Brian Rolston recorded two assists. Former Penguin Johan Hedberg made 26 saves in the victory. Fire Craig Patrick.

-A shootout goal by Mats Zuccarello gave the Rangers a 3-2 win against the Thrashers. Henrik Lundqvist made 20 saves in the victory.

-The Islanders claimed goaltender Evgeni Nabokov off waivers a day after he signed with the Red Wings. Nabokov said he would not report to the Islanders.

-The Rangers recalled forward Evgeny Grachev and defenseman Michael Del Zotto from Connecticut of the AHL and demoted forward Dale Weise to Connecticut.
Northeast Division
Brad Marchand had two goals and two assists for the Bruins in a 6-2 win at Colorado. Patrice Bergeron and former Penguin Mark Recchi each added a goal and two assists for Boston while teammate Milan Lucic scored two goals. Tim Thomas made 32 saves in the victory. Fire Ray Shero. Kevin Shattenkirk netted a goal and an assist for the Avalanche.

-A hat trick by captain Alex Ovechkin led the Capitals to a 3-1 win at Toronto. Teammate Nicklas Backstrom recorded two assists while Braden Holtby made 35 saves in in the victory.

Central Division
-Two goals by Tomas Kopecky led the Blackhawks to a 4-1 win a Detroit. Dave Bolland and Troy Brouwer each netted a goal and an assist for Chicago while teammate Duncan Keith recorded two assists. Corey Crawford made 26 saves in the victory.

-Steve Mason made 19 saves for the Blue Jackets in a 5-1 win at St. Louis. Derick Brassard and Jakub Voracek each recorded two assists for Columbus. Alexander Steen netted two assists for the Blues.
-The Blue Jackets won in St. Louis for the first time since 2007.
-The Red Wings recalled forward Cory Emmerton from Grand Rapids of the AHL and demoted forward Tomas Tatar to Grand Rapids.
Northwest Division
-Shootout goals by Rene Bourque and Alex Tanguay gave the Flames a 4-3 win at Vancouver. Tim Jackman had a goal and an assist in regulation for Calgary while Miikka Kiprusoff made 41 saves in the victory. Alexander Edler scored two regulation goals for the Canucks.
-Officials awarded Tanguay a goal which secured the win after Roberto Luongo made this save. They ruled Luongo's body carried the puck into the net despite not having clear visual evidence of the puck being clearly over the goal line:
