Time after time - 01-21-11

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

First off, let us apologize for titling a blog post with the name of a Cyndi Lauper song. We were out of ideas.

Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur  (above)  recorded his eighth career shutout against the Penguins last night. Only Hall-of-Famer Bernie Parent had more against the Penguins with 10.

Brodeur's success isn't exactly surprising. He is arguably the greatest goaltender in NHL history. But the numbers are.

The bulk of his shutouts against the Penguins have come in the "Crosby/Malkin Era." Five of the eight have come since 2006-07, the first season in which Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were both in the NHL.

To put it in perspective, Brodeur never recorded a regular season shutout anytime either Mario Lemieux or Rico Fata were in the lineup.

Here is a breakdown of the 83 Penguins players who have been involved in a Brodeur goose egg and how many times they were blanked.
