Northeast Division
-The Bruins placed forward Trent Whitfield on waivers.
-Maple Leafs forward John Mitchell is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks due to a knee injury.
-Senators general manager Bryan Murray is being kind of wishy-washy on the status of head coach Cory Clouston.
-Ottawa coach Luke Richardson returned to practice for the first time since his daughter committed suicide Nov. 13.
Southeast Division
-Two goals by Rich Peverly led the Thrashers to a 3-2 win at Florida. Captain Andrew Ladd recorded two assists while Ondrej Pavelec made 33 saves in the victory. Chris Higgins had a goal and an assist for Florida.
-The Panthers got robbed of a potential game-tying goal late. Captain Bryan McCabe appeared to score and appealed to officials to review his potential goal. Officials ruled no goal on the ice and declined to review the play:

-Atlanta's Eric Boulton and Florida's Bryan Allen had issues:

-The Thrashers placed forward Ben Eager ("lower body") on injured reserve.
-Lightning goaltender Mike Smith didn't exactly hide his disappointment in the team picking up goaltender Dwayne Roloson from the Islanders.
-Karl Alzner and John Carlson have become the Capitals' shutdown pair of defensemen.
Central Division
-Patric Hornqvist and Sergei Kostitsyn each had a goal and an assist for the Predators in a 4-1 win at Anaheim. Pekka Rinne made 40 saves in the victory.
-Anaheim's George Parros and Nashville's Wade Belak had issues:

-Ducks forward Teemu Selanne ripped his team's effort after the game.
-Blue Jackets defenseman Mike Commodore has requested a trade citing differences with coach Scott Arniel.
-Columbus forward Ethan Moreau is dealing with a rib injury.
Northwest Division
-A goal and an assist Kevin Bieksa helped the Canucks beat the rival Flames, 3-1. Teammate Alex Burrows recorded two assists while Roberto Luongo made 43 saves in the victory. Vancouver has won seven consecutive games.

-Two goals by Mike Ribeiro led the Stars to a 4-2 win at Chicago. Captain Brenden Morrow added a goal and an assist for Dallas while teammates Loui Eriksson and Brad Richards each recorded two assists. Kari Lehtonen made 34 saves in the victory.
-Morrow made a heck of a play to control a puck which hit him in the face in order to score:
-Blackhawks forward Viktor Stalberg managed to put the puck off posts and the cross bar on an unsuccessful penalty shot:
-Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf will be sidelined four to six weeks due to facial injuries.
IIHF World Championships
-Blues prospect Vladimir Tarasenko had a goal and an assist for Russia which scored five unanswered goal in the third period and came back to claim the gold medal in a stunning 5-3 defeat of Canada.

-Canada goaltender Mark Visentin allowed five goals in the span of approximately 13 minutes.
