Penguins

-Happy 34th birthday to former Penguins forward Georges Laraque. Acquired at the 2007 trade deadline in a deal which sent Daniel Carcillo and a draft pick to the Coyotes, Laraque spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. He finished 2006-07 by appearing in 17 games for the Penguins and recorded two assists and 18 penalty minutes. In that spring's postseason, Laraque appeared in two games and failed to record a point. Laraque followed that up in 2007-08 by l playing 71 games, scoring 13 points and leading the team with 141 penalty minutes. He appeared in 15 playoff games that spring and scored three points and recorded four penalty minutes. In the 2008 offseason, Laraque joined the Canadiens as a free agent. In 88 regular season games for the Penguins, Laraque scored 15 points and recorded 159 penalty minutes. In 17 postseason games, he scored three points.

Atlantic Division

-The Islanders demoted former Pittsburgh Forge defenseman Dylan Reese to Bridgeport of the AHL.

Northeast Division

-Mikhail Grabovski's shootout goal gave the Maple Leafs a comeback 5-4 win against the Maple Leafs. Clarke MacArthur scored two goals in regulation for Toronto while Grabovski added a goal and an assist in regulation. Jonas Gustavsson made 32 saves in the victory. Mathieu Perreault scored two goals for Washington.

Southeast Division

-An overtime goal by Zach Bogosian gave the Thrashers a 3-2 win against the Predators. Ondrej Pavelec made 27 saves in the victory. Colin Wilson had a goal and an assist for Nashville.

-Panthers forward Radek Dvorak is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks due to a shoulder injury.

-Capitals defenseman Jeff Schultz will be sidelined four to six weeks due to a thumb injury.

-The Capitals recalled forward Mathieu Perreault from Hershey of the AHL.

Central Division

-Shootout goals by Rick Nash and Kyle Wilson led the Blue Jackets to a 3-2 win against the Stars. Nash had a goal and an assist in regulation while former Penguin Mathieu Garon made 16 saves in the victory. Columbus broke a five-game losing streak. Dallas has a six-game winning streak snapped.

-The Blackhawks demoted forward Jeremy Morin to Rockford of the AHL.

-After Saturday's invasion by Penguins' fans, the Blue Jackets vowed to never again allow visiting fans to ride their Zamboni.

-Blues forward Andy McDonald is dealing with sounds like a head injury.

Northwest Division

-Canucks forward and former Penguin Mikael Samuelsson is expected to be sidelined a week due to a concussion.

-The Flames placed defenseman Steve Staios (undisclosed) on injured reserve.

-The Wild defemoted defenseman Justin Falk to Houston of the AHL.

Pacific Division

-Two goals by Logan Couture led the Sharks to a 5-2 win at Detroit. Dany Heatley added a goal and an assist for San Jose while teammate Ryane Clowe recorded two assists. Antti Niemi made 25 saves in the victory. Tomas Holmstrom had a goal and assist for the Red Wings.

-The Stars recalled forward Francis Wathier from the Texas of the AHL.

Norris Division

-Former Rangers forward Jeff Ulmer joined Linköping of the Elitserien in Sweden.
