-Happy 38th birthday to former Penguins forward Sean Pronger. Acquired at the 1998 trade deadline in a deal which sent Patrick Lalime to the Mighty Ducks, Pronger spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. He finished 1997-98 by appearing in five games and scoring one goal for the Penguins. He appeared in five postseason games that spring and failed to score a point. After two points and no points in 1998-99, Pronger was traded along with Chris Tamer and Petr Nedved to the Rangers in exchange for Alex Kovalev and Harry York. In seven regular season games, Pronger recorded one point.
Atlantic Division
-The funeral of former Canadiens/Maple Leafs/Bruins/Devils coach Pat Burns was held yesterday.
-In the span of three days, Devils forward Patrik Elias went from experiencing the birth of his daughter to attending the funeral of his former coach, Burns.
-Flyers forward Daniel Carcillo resumed practicing for the first time since suffering a sprained knee Nov. 15.
-Islanders defenseman Bruno Gervais is dealing with a fractured cheek bone.
Northeast Division
-The Bruins traded defenseman Matt Hunwick to the Avalanche in exchange for defenseman Colby Cohen. The move freed up enough salary cap space to allow forward Marc Savard to come off long-term injured reserve.
-Boston demoted forward Jamie Arniel to Providence of the AHL.
-The Maple Leafs demoted former Penguins forward Luca Caputi to their AHL affiliate, also in Toronto.
Central Division
-Blackhawks forward and former Penguin Marian Hossa was injured in practice after a collision with teammate Nick Boynton.
-"I'd be devastated if my career ends like this. Hopefully I can come back and play. But this has been a real bummer." - Red Wings forward Mike Modano on his wrist injury.
-Since 1999-2000, the Predators are 47-54-7-14 when forward David Legwand is out of the lineup.
Northwest Division
-Gilbert Brule and Andrew Cogliano each had a goal and an assist for the Oilers in a 4-1 win at Ottawa. Teammate Dustin Penner recorded two assists while Martin Gerber made 22 saves in the victory.
-Miikka Kiprusoff made 32 saves for the Flames in a 3-0 shutout of the Wild. Captain Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist for Calgary while teammate Alex Tanguay recorded two assists.
-Edmonton's Jordan Eberle invades the personal space of Ottawa's Brian Elliott:

-The Wild recalled forward Matt Kassian from Houston of the AHL and demoted forward Robbie Earl to Houston.

-Avalanche forward Chris Stewart will be sidelined four to six weeks due to a broken hand. Stewart was injured in a fight with Minnesota's Kyle Brodziak Saturday.
Pacific Division
-Two goals by James Neal led the Stars to a 4-1 win at Carolina. Jamie Benn added a goal and an assist for Dallas while Kari Lehtonen made 27 saves in the victory.

-Jonas Hiller made 27 saves for the Ducks in a 2-0 shutout of the rival Kings. Teemu Selanne and Lubomir Visnovsky each recorded two assists for Anaheim. Los Angeles has lost four consecutive games.
