-Sidney Crosby (above, with Chris Kunitz), who leads the NHL in scoring, needs new wingers, right (PG+)?

-Ryan Craig, Dustin Jeffrey and Nick Johnson each had a goal and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-2 defeat of the Springfield Falcons. Brad Thiessen made 18 saves in the victory.

-Mattais Modig made 25 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 2-0 loss to the Greenville Road Warriors.

-Former Penguins defenseman Richard Lintner has joined SaiPa of the SM-liiga in Finland.

-Happy 67th birthday to former Penguins coach Bob Berry. Hired June 4, 1984, Berry, Mario Lemieux's first NHL coach, spent three seasons with the Penguins. Berry's first season was 1984-85 and he led the team to a 24-51-5 record and 53 points, a 15-point improvement over the previous season. In 1985-86, the Penguins improved yet again to 34-38-8 and 76 points. Berry's final season with the Penguins was 1986-87. They took a step back going 30-38-12 for 72 points and missed the postseason for the third consecutive year. He was fired, April 13, 1987. In 240 games with the Penguins, Berry's record was 88-127-25 and he had 201 points.

-Happy 61st birthday to former Penguins defenseman Yvon Labre. A fourth-round pick in 1969, Labre spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 1970-71, Labre saw action in 21 games and scored two points. In 1971-72, Labre played in 16 games and collected three points. During the 1974 offseason, Labre was claimed in the expansion draft by the Capitals. In 37 games with the Penguins, Labre scored five points.

Atlantic Division

-The Flyers demoted forward Eric Wellwood to Adirondack of the AHL.

Northeast Division

-Bruins forward Marc Savard discusses his battle with depression.

Southeast Division

-Captain Alex Ovechkin's shootout goal gave the Capitals a 3-2 win against the Hurricanes. Semyon Varlamov made 26 saves in the victory. Captain Eric Staal had a goal and an assist for Carolina.

-Hurricanes coach and former Penguins captain Ron Francis offering what we assume is perfect advice on a faceoff:

-Carolina's Paul Maurice coached his 1,000th career game.

-Dustin Byfuglien had a goal and three assists for the Thrashers in a 4-1 defeat of the Bruins. Ondrej Pavelec made 40 saves in the victory which was Atlanta's fifth consecutive.

-Capitals defenseman Mike Green returned to the lineup after missing two games due to an undisclosed injury.

-Byfuglien tied a single-game franchise record for points by a defenseman.

-The Panthers demoted defenseman Joe Callahan and former Penguins forward Bill Thomas to Rochester of the AHL.

Central Division

-Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen each had two assists for the Red Wings in a 4-2 defeat of the Blue Jackets. Jimmy Howard made 27 saves in the victory. 

Northwest Division

-The Avalanche demoted defenseman Jonas Holos to Lake Erie of the AHL.

-The Wild recalled defenseman Jared Spurgeon from Houston of the AHL.

Pacific Division

-Ducks forward Teemu Selanne is expected to return to the lineup tonight against the rival Kings after being sidelined for several games due to a groin injury.

-The Sharks recalled defenseman Benn Ferriero and forward Tommy Wingels from Worcester of the AHL.

Smythe Division

-Happy 70th birthday to former Pittsburgh Hornets forward Jack Martin.

-Happy 77th birthday to former Pittsburgh Hornets defenseman Ian Cushenan.
