-The AHL Penguins have lost three consecutive home games.

-Mattais Modig made 18 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 6-2 loss to the Greenville Road Warriors.

-Happy 53rd birthday to former Penguins forward Tom Roulston (right). Acquired midway through the 1983-84 season in a deal which sent Kevin McClelland and a draft pick to the Oilers, Roulston spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. He finished 1983-84 by appearing in 53 games for the Penguins and scoring 28 points. After spending all of 1985-86 with the Penguins' AHL affiliate in Baltimore, Roulston saw action in five games in 1985-86 and failed to record a point. He was released in the 1986 offseason. In 58 games with the Penguiins, he scored 28 points.

Atlantic Division

-With goaltender Martin Brodeur (elbow) ailing, the Devils recalled goaltender Mike McKenna from Albany of the AHL.

-The Islanders recalled forward Jesse Joensuu (right) from Bridgeport of the AHL.

Northeast Division

-Tim Connolly and Thomas Vanek each had a goal and an assist for the Sabres in a 4-2 defeat of the Kings. Teammate Jason Pominville recorded two assists while Ryan Miller made 36 saves in the victory.

-Bruins forward Marc Savard (post-concussion syndrome) was given medical clearance to resume practicing.

Southeast Division

-Ondrej Pavelec made 29 saves and led the Thrashers to a 5-0 shutout of the Capitals. Nik Antropov, Ben Eager and Evander Kane each recorded a goal and an assist for Atlanta.

-Thrashers defenseman Dustin Byfuglien returned to the lineup despite a wonky left knee.

-With forward Rostislav Olesz dealing with a broken finger, the Panthers recalled former Penguins forward Bill Thomas, a Fox Chapel native, from Rochester of the AHL.

-The Lightning demoted James Wright to Norfolk of the AHL.

-Does Lightning forward Steven Stamkos have a shot at 50 goals in 50 games?

Central Division

-Patrick Berglund, Brad Boyes and Carlo Colaiacovo each had a goal and assist for the Blues in a 5-2 win against the Senators. Teammates David Backes and Alex Pietrangelo each recorded two assists while former Penguin Ty Conklin made 18 saves in the victory. Fire Ray Shero.

-Happy times for Colaiacovo:

-Chris Clark and Mike Commodore each had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets in a 4-3 win at Anaheim. Steve Mason made a ridiculous 47 saves in the victory. The Ducks have lost four consecutive games.

-Happy times for Anaheim's Corey Perry:

-The Blues demoted defenseman Nathan Oystrick to Peoria of the AHL.

-Predators forward David Legwand is dealing with a "lower-body" injury.

Northwest Division

-A goal and two assists by Matt Duchene led the Avalanche to a 5-1 rout of the Rangers. Teammate Scott Hannan recorded two assists while Craig Anderson made 25 saves in the victory.

-Anderson returned to the lineup after missing 10 games due to a knee injury.

-Duchene took a cross check to the head from Rangers forward and former Penguin Ruslan Fedotenko.

-John Madden's overtime goal gave the Wild a 4-3 win at Detroit. Teammates Martin Havlat and Nick Schultz each recorded two assists while Jose Theodore made 41 saves in the victory. Patrick Eaves led the Red Wings with a goal and an assist.

-A hat trick by Jarome Iginla helped the Flames rout the Blackhawks, 7-2. David Moss added a goal and two assists for Calgary while teammate Alex Tanguay recorded three assists. Miikka Kiprusoff made 31 saves in the victory.

-Calgary's Mark Giordano and Chicago's Jacob Dowell had issues:

-The Flames beat the Blackhawks at home for the first time in nearly four years.

-The Canucks recalled forward Joel Perrault from Manitoba of the AHL and demoted Mario Bliznak to Manitoba.

-With the Rangers playing in Minnesota tonight, expect plenty of "boos" - albeit for different reasons - for New York forwards and former Wild players Derek Boogaard and Marian Gaborik.

-Avalanche defenseman Kyle Quincey (concussion) was given medical clearance to resume practicing.

Pacific Division

-Shootout goals by Radim Vrbata, Lee Stempniak and Eric Belanger gave the Coyotes a 4-3 win at Edmonton. Vrbata had a goal and two assists in regulation while teammate Ray Whitney recorded three assists. Ilya Bryzgalov made 27 saves in the victory which was Phoenix's fifth conseuctive. Ales Hemsky led the Oilers with a goal and an assist.

-Ducks forward Teemu Selanne left last night's game against the Blue Jackets due to a groin injury.

-The Sharks demoted defenseman Mike Moore and forward Frazer McLaren to Worcester of the AHL.

Adams Division

-Former Canadiens/Leafs/Bruins/Devils coach Pat Burns passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 58. Burns won the Adams Award three times as the league's top coach.

-Former Maple Leafs/Black Hawks/Red Wings/Rangers/Canadiens forward Gaye Stewart passed away. He was 87. A four-time all-star, Stewart won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in 1943.

-Former Blues/Islanders/Senators/Bruins/Panthers/Red Wings/Coyotes defenseman Jamie Rivers has joined Medvescak Zagreb of the EBEL in Croatia.

-Kyle Just had a goal and an assist for the Mercyhurst men's team in a 3-1 defeat of Robert Morris.

-Daneca Butterfield made 38 saves for the Robert Morris women's team in a 7-1 loss to Wisconsin.

-Jess Jones had two goals and three assists for the Mercyhurst women's team in a 7-1 rout of Wayne State.
