Penguins

-Kris Letang (above). All-Star snub?

-We forgot to post yesterday's edition of "Twenty Years Later." Apologies. It's been a weird week.

-Defensemen Robert Bortuzzo and Brian Strait are forming quite a pair at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

-Patrick Killeen made 33 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-0 loss to the Kalamazoo Wings.

-Happy 33rd birthday to former Penguins defenseman Richard Lintner (right). Acquired midway through the 2002-03 season along with Joel Bouchard, Rico Fata and Mikael Samuelsson in a deal which sent Mike Wilson, Alex Kovalev, Janne Laukkanen and Dan LaCouture to the Rangers, Lintner's entire Penguins career amounted to 19 games and five points that campaign. In the 2003 offseason, he joined Djurgarden of the Elitserien in Sweden. He currently plays for HK Dukla Trencin of the Slovnaft Extraliga in Slovakia.

-Happy 65th birthday to former Penguins forward Jim Shires. Acquired midway through the 1972-73 season in a deal which sent Joe Noris to the Blues, Shire's Penguins' career amounted to 18 games and three points that campaign. After spending all of 1972-73 with San Diego of the WHL, Shires was released from the organization. He currently works for All-Pro Science, a sports supplement company.

Atlantic Division

-A hat trick and an assist by Marian Gaborik led the Rangers to an 8-2 rout of the Oilers. Linemate Alex Frolov added two goals and two assists while former Penguin Erik Christensen had three assists for New York. Fire Ray Shero. Martin Biron made 19 saves in the victory.

Northeast Division

-Bruins forward and former Penguin Mark Recchi has not missed a game this season despite suffering a tear in his mensicus in August.

-The Sabres lead the NHL in goals by defensemen with 11.

Southeast Division

-Mike Green, Alex Ovechkin and David Steckel each had a goal and an assist for the Capitals in a 6-4 defeat of the Thrashers. Tyler Sloan added two assists for Washington while Michal Neuvirth made 23 saves in the victory. Bryan Little led Atlanta with two goals.

Central Division

-An overtime goal by Victor Stalberg led the Blackhawks to a 4-3 win against the Ducks. Former Penguin Marian Hossa and Patrick Kane each had a goal and an assist for Chicago while Corey Crawford made 24 saves in the victory. Fire Ray Shero. Corey Perry led Anaheim with two goals. The Ducks had a six-game winning streak snapped.

Northwest Division

-A goal and an assist by John Madden helped the Wild win at Tampa Bay, 4-1. Teammate Martin Havlat recorded three assists while Niklas Backstrom made 37 saves in the victory.
