Penguins

-Random Observation: Two players - Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal - modeled the Penguins new "fat" Penguin Winter Classic jersey last week. Today, both of those players are injured.

-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltenders John Curry and Brad Thiessen were named the AHL goaltenders of the month for October.

-Former Penguins defensive prospect Drew Fata has joined the Sparta Warriors of the GET League in Norway.

Atlantic Division

-Two goals by Scott Hartnell (above) helped the Flyers hold off the Hurricanes, 3-2. Jeff Carter added two assists for Philadelphia while Sergei Bobrovsky made 26 saves in the victory.

-We don't want to question the skating ability of Philadelphia's Daniel Carcillo, but...:

-In their last 16 games against the Hurricanes, the Flyers are 13-0-3.

-Two goals by Brandon Dubinsky led the Rangers to a 3-2 win against the Blackhawks. Artem Anisimov and Ryan Callahan each recorded two assists for New York while Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves in the victory. Duncan Keith led Chicago with two assists.

-Happy times for Rangers forward and former Penguin Erik Christensen who scored the game-winning goal:

-New York's Michael Sauer got a little bit of air after a collision with Chicago's Fernando Pisani:

-Flyers forward Daniel Briere was suspended three games for a cross check to the back of Islanders forward Frans Nielsen Saturday.

-Briere heavily disputed his suspension.

-The Flyers recalled forward Eric Wellwood from Adirondack of the AHL.

-Former Sabres/Senators/Thrashers/Flyers forward Denis Hamel has joined the Adirondack Phantoms, the Flyers' AHL affiliate.

-Life just keeps getting better for the Devils. Forward Zach Parise (right) will undergo exploratory arthroscopic knee surgery and forward Jacob Josefson will be sidelined 6-8 weeks following surgery on his right thumb to repair a torn and detached ligament.

-"Yeah, but I like that kind of pressure." - Devils forward Ilya Kovalchuk on whether or not he can pick up the slack with Parise sidelined.

-Islanders defenseman Milan Jurcina will be sidelined two to four weeks due to a hamstring injury.

-The Islanders placed former Penguins forward Jon Sim (right) on waivers.

-Thinking Out Loud: Jordan Staal and Evgeni Malkin out + Ray Shero's weird fetish for ex-Islanders forwards = You do the math.

Northeast Division

-"That's typical Chris Neil. I had to protect that guy for three years when I was there. He'd do that and I'd have to fight all his battles for him the next time we'd play a team after he'd do something stupid like that. It doesn't surprise me. That's the way he does it. He'll do something where he knows he'll get kicked out of the game and won't have to come back and fight anybody. I've been around him long enough to know he does that. Then I'm the one who usually has to fight his battles the next time. It's typical." - Bruins forward/enforcer Brian McGratton on former Senators teammate/antagonist Chris Neil. Neil engaged Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg, not considered a traditional fighter, in a brawl and cut Seidenberg's face Saturday:

-The Bruins recalled McGrattan from a conditioning assignment with Providence of the AHL.

-Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller is dealing with a "lower-body" injury.

-The Sabres signed forward Zack Kassian, a first-round pick in 2009, to a three-year entry-level contract.

-It looks like former Penguins forward Luca Caputi (right) is finally getting a chance with the Maple Leafs.

-Speaking of former Penguins forward, the Maple Leafs demoted the great Mike Zigomanis to their AHL affiliate, also in Toronto.

-Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson is dealing with a "lower-body" injury.

-With goaltender Pascal Leclaire recovering from a groin injury, the Senators demoted goaltender Robin Lehner to Binghamton of the AHL.

Southeast Division

-With defenseman Matt Smaby dealing with an ankle injury, the Lightning recalled defenseman Matt Roy from Norfolk of the AHL.

Central Division

-Blackhawks defenseman Brian Campbell returned to the lineup for the first time since suffering a knee injury in a preseason game against the Penguins in September.

-The Blackhawks placed forward Dave Bolland on injured reserve due to an "upper-body" injury.

-While Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard (right) has recovered after missing a handful of games due to back spasms, his backup, Chris Osgood, is day to day due to a groin ailment.

-The Red Wings demoted defenseman Doug Janik to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

-The Predators demoted defenseman Linus Klasen to Milwaukee of the AHL.

Northwest Division

-Robert Luongo (above) made 30 saves for the Canucks in a 3-0 shutout of the Devils. At 3-9-1, the Devils are off to their worst start in 27 years.

Pacific Division

-Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen (right) is expected to start against the Penguins Wednesday.

-The Ducks recalled forward Nick Bonino from Syracuse of the AHL.

-Ducks forward Kyle Chipchura is dealing with a neck ailment.

-Anaheim general manager Bob Murray issued another "head coach Randy Carlyle's job is safe" edict.

Smythe Division

-Former Sharks/Maple Leafs/Flames goaltender Vesa Toskala has joined AIK in the Elitserien in Sweden.

-Former Coyotes/Wild defenseman Craig Weller has joined the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL in Wales.

-Today would've been the 88th birthday of former Pittsburgh Hornets defenseman Doug Baldwin.
