Penguins

-Dave Molinari's recap from last night's game. Kris Letang left with an undisclosed injury and was described as day to day.

-The Raleigh News Observer's recap. The Hurricanes have yet to win a home game this season.

-The Associated Press' recap. Brent Johnson recorded his 14th career shutout.

-The Penguins' Web site's recap. "Whatever he wants to hear. Whatever he says goes." - Sidney Crosby on the team playing Led Zeppelin in the locker room in honor of Johnson after the game.

-Zbynek Michalek and Jordan Staal are expected to return to the lineup Wednesday.

-When Michalek and Staal do return, who sits (PG+)?

-Don't expect Maxime Talbot to pull a Rick Rypien.

-Former Penguin Bill Guerin is still looking for work.

-Chris Conner had two goals and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 6-2 defeat of the rival Hershey Bears. Andrew Hutchinson added a goal and an assist for the Penguins while teammate Nick Johnson recorded two assists. John Curry made 30 saves in the win.

-The Penguins snapped a 10-game losing streak in Hershey.

-Tim Wallace became the 10 player in team history to appear in 250 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have killed 40 of 43 penalties (93.0 percent) this season.

-Nick Petersen scored four goals and led the Wheeling Nailers to a 7-3 rout of the Cincinnati Cyclones. Jason DeSantis added three assists for the Nailers while teammates Ben Street and Darryl Smith each recorded two assists. Patrick Killeen made 24 saves in the victory. The Penguins improved to 8-0-0.

-Former Penguins forward Mitch Lamoureux will be inducted into the AHL's hall of fame.

Atlantic Division

-Two goals and an assist by Jeff Carter lifted the Flyers to a 6-1 rout of the Islanders. Chris Pronger added two goals for Philadelphia while teammate Kimmo Timonen contributed a goal and two assists. Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves in the victory.

-Here's a match made in heaven. New York's Zenon Konopka and Philadelphia's Daniel Carcillo:

-Henrik Lundqvist made 36 saves and led the Rangers to a 2-0 shutout win at Toronto.

-Devils forward Zach Parise is dealing with a "lower-body" injury.

-The Devils placed defenseman Anton Volchenkov (nose/neck) on injured reserve and recalled forard Brad Mills from Albany of the AHL.

Northeast Division

-Tim Thomas made 29 saves for the Bruins in a 4-0 shutout win at Ottawa. David Krejci had a goal and an assist for Boston.

-Thomas improved his record to 6-0-0 and tied the franchise record for longest winning streak to start a season. Tiny Thompson set the original mark in 1937-38.

-The Sabres recalled forward Luke Adam from Portland of the AHL.

Southeast Division

-A goal and an assist by Shawn Matthias led the Panthers to a 3-1 win at Montreal. Tomas Vokoun made 40 saves in the victory.

-Dan Ellis made 23 saves for the Lightning in a 3-0 shutout win at Phoenix.

-Phoenix's Keith Yandle accused Tampa Bay's Pavel Kubina of a "dirty" knee-on-knee hit.

-Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and three assists for the Capitals in a 7-2 rout of the Flames. Captain Alex Ovechkin added two goals and an assist while teammates Mike Green and Alexander Semin each recorded a goal and and two assists. Michal Neuvirth made 27 saves in the win.

-Six of Washington's goals were scored in the second period.

-Thrashers goaltender Ondrej Pavelec return to the lineup for the first time since suffering a fainting spell in the season-opener, Oct. 8.

-Atlanta forward Bryan Little is dealing with a concussion.

-The Thrashers demoted former Penguins defenseman Noah Welch to Chicago of the AHL.

-Panthers forward Stephen Weiss is dealing with a wonky ankle.

Central Division

-Shootout goals by T.J. Oshie and Brad Boyes gave the Blues to a 4-3 win against the Thrashers. Jay McClement recorded his first career hat trick for St. Louis while teammates Matt D'Agostini and Alexander Steen each netted two assists. Jaroslav Halak made 25 saves in the victory.

-Two goals and an assist by Pavel Datsyuk led the Red Wings to a 5-2 defeat of the Predators. Teammates Nicklas Lidstrom and Ruslan Salei each recorded two assists while Chris Osgood made 23 saves in the win.

-Datsyuk has at least a point in his team's first nine games this season.

-Troy Brouwer and Duncan Keith each had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks in a 3-1 win at Minnesota. Patrick Kane contributed two assists while Marty Turco made 25 saves in the victory.

-With forward Dave Bolland dealing with an "upper-body" injury, the Blackhawks recalled forward Ryan Potulny from Rockford of the AHL.

Northwest Division

-Paul Stastny and Chris Stewart each had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche in a 5-1 defeat of the Blue Jackets. Milan Hejduk and Daniel Winnik each recorded two assists for Colorado while Peter Budaj made 33 saves in the victory.

Pacific Division

-Jarret Stoll had a goal and two assists for the Kings in a 3-1 win against the Devils. Justin Williams added a goal and an assist while Martin Brodeur made 20 saves in the victory.

-Kings fans booed Devils forward Ilya Kovalchuk everytime he touched the puck. Kovalchuk flirted with the Kings as a free agent this summer.

-Andrew Raycroft made 34 saves in his first start of the season and led the Stars to a 4-0 shutout of the Sabres. Brad Richards recorded two assists for Dallas.

-Two goals and an assist by Dany Heatley helped the Sharks beat the rival Ducks, 5-2. Captain Joe Thornton recorded three assists for San Jose while teammate Dan Boyle netted two assists. Antero Niittymaki made 22 saves in the victory. Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry each had a goal and an assist for Anaheim.

-Furman South had a goal and an assist for the Robert Morris men's team in a 4-2 defeat of Niagara.
