Former Penguins forward Ruslan Fedotenko (right), currently an unrestricted free agent, will attend the Rangers' training camp on a tryout basis.

Fedotenko, 31, spent the past two seasons with the Penguins playing primarily on a line with Evgeni Malkin.

In 2008-09, Fedotenko, 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, appeared in 65 games and scored 39 points (16 goals, 23 assists). In the postseason, Fedotenko was the team's fourth-leading scorer with 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 24 games and helped the franchise claim its third Stanley Cup title.

Last season, Fedotenko struggled. In 80 games, he has 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists). In the postseason, he appeared in six games, failed to score a point and was a frequent healthy scratch.

The Penguins opted not to re-sign him this offseason.

The Rangers are coached by John Tortorella who coached Fedotenko previous in Tampa Bay. The pair were a part of the Lightning's Stanley Cup title in 2004.

EN Says: We like the move for the Rangers. It potentially ads to their depth at with no risk. Fedotenko has to earn his way on to the roster. When he has everything clicking, he can be a viable second- or third-liner in the NHL. That said he's very inconsistent.
