-Today would've been the 69th birthday of former Penguins all-star defenseman Bob Woytowich (right). Acquired in a trade prior to the 1968-69 season, Woytowich spent parts of four seasons with the Penguins. In 1968-69, "Augie" saw action in 71 games and scored 29 points. He would appear in 68 games and scored a career-high 33 points becoming the first defenseman in franchise history to be selected to an all-star game. In 10 playoff games that spring, Woytowich scored three points. He recorded an assist in on a goal by Jean Pronovost in Game 1 of a quarterfinal series against the Oakland Seals, the first postseason goal in Penguins history. The 1970-71 campaign would see Woytowich play in a career-high 78 games and score 26 points. After 31 games and five points in 1971-72, Woytowich was traded to the Kings in exchange for Al McDonough. In 248 games with the Penguins, Woytowich, who actually had a fan club at Mellon Arena called "Bob Woytowich's Polish Army," scored 93 points, 84th-most in franchise history. He passed away July 30, 1988.
