Penguins

-Ray Shero had a chat with Dan Hamhuis yesterday.
-Could the Penguins' free agency situation re-unite Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal (above)?
-The Penguins are considering bringing back Barry Smith as an assistant coach (PG+). He served that roled with the franchise's first two Stanley Cup championships.
-The Penguins extended a qualifying offer to restricted free agent forward Chris Conner. Forward Aaron Boogaard and defenseman Jon D’Aversa did not receive offers.
-Because it's not like they already got something round, shiny and made out of a precious metal, Sidney Crosby and the rest of Team Canada got rings for their Olympic triumph.
-Penguins first-round pick Beau Bennett made an appearance on NHL Live yesterday:

Atlantic Division
-The Islanders extended qualifying offers to forwards Matt Moulson, Rob Schremp, defenseman Dustin Kohn, Dylan Reese, an Upper St. Clair native, and goaltender goaltender Nathan Lawson.
-The Devils extended qualifying offers to restricted free agent forwards forwards David Clarkson, Davis, Rod Pelley defenseman Tyler Eckford Mark Fraser and Olivier Magnan-Grenier. Forwards Brad Snetsinger and Myles Stoesz did not receive offers.
Northeast Division
-Forward Mark Recchi (right) officially re-signed with the Bruins yesterday for one year and $1.7 million.
-The Bruins did not extend qualifying offers to restricted free agent forward Daniel Paille and goaltender Kevin Regan.
-After not offering him a qualifying offer initially, the Canadiens re-signed restricted free agent forward Benoit Pouliot to a one-year deal worth $1.35 million.
-Montreal also re-signed forward Tom Pyatt to a one-year deal worth $500,000.
-The Senators placed forward Jonathan Cheechoo on waivers.
-The Maple Leafs did not extend a qualifying offer to restricted free agent forward John Mitchell.
Southeast Division
-The Panthers placed defenseman Ville Koistinen on waivers.
-The Hurricanes extended a qualifying offer to goaltender Justin Peters but did not extend offers to defensemen defensemen Brett Carson and Alexandre Picard.
Central Division
-The Predators re-signed forward Andreas Thuresson to a one-year, two-way contract.
-Nashville did not extend qualifying offers to forward forward Dustin Boyd or defenseman Denis Grebeshkov.
-The Blue Jackets extended qualifying offers to forwards Mike Blunden, Jared Boll (right), Chad Kolarik, Tom Sestito, defenseman Grant Clitsome and Anton Stralman. Goaltenders Kevin Lalande and Dan LaCosta, defenseman Andrei Plekhanov and forward Jordan Smotherman did not receive offers.
Northwest Division
-The Avalanche acquired forward Daniel Winnik from the Coyotes in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2012.
-The Flames placed forward Ales Kotalik on waivers.
-Calgary extended qualifying offers to restricted free agent defensemen Gord Baldwin, Matt Pelech, Ian White, forwards Kris Chuko, Brett Sutter, J.D. Watt and goaltenders Henrik Karlsson and Matt Keetley. Defenseman Brad Cole did not receive an offer.
-The Oilers extended qualifying offers to forwards Gilbert Brule, Andrew Cogliano, Colin Fraser, Sam Gagner, J.F. Jacques, Ryan O’Marra, Liam Reddox, goaltenders Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers, Devan Dubnyk and defenseman Theo Peckham. Forwards Ryan Potulny and Marc Pouliot did not receive offers.
-The Canucks extendeded qualifying offers to restricted free agent forwards Tanner Glass, Jannik Hansen, Mason Raymond and defenman Shane O'Brien.
Pacific Division
-The Coyotes officially re-signed forward Wojtek Wolski to a two-year deal worth $7.6 million. Phoenix also placed defenseman Jim Vandermeer and forward Petteri Nokelainen on waivers.
-The Stars re-signed unrestricted free agent forward Krys Barch to a two-year deal with an annual salary cap hit of $837,500.
-The Ducks extended qualifying offers to restricted free agent defenseman Brendan Mikkelson, James Wisniewski (right) and forward Bobby Ryan. Forwards Bobby Bolt, Shawn Weller and goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur did not receive offers.
-The Sharks will not re-sign forward Jed Ortmeyer.
Smythe Division
-Former Red Wings/Rangers/Canucks/Flyers defenseman Willie Huber passed away. He was 52.
-Today would've been the 114th birthday of Ty Arbour, a forward with the NHL's Pittsburgh Pirates.
